The next version is the commercial release, no definite date but hinting at around Christmas 2015.

 that long.
Well someone better get a dk2 and play elite and see what it's like as 2015 is silly long time, as dk2 seems to fix most of their issues. Would still like higher rest screens.

Sounds good, has anyone on here played with them yet? How is pixilation and eye strain, seeing as the panels are so close to the eyes, 1080p just doesn't sound high enough.

I played the Alpha with DK1 and it was okay, but my headset was starting to drift and I couldn't read the text so shelved it. DK2 should be here in a week or three, but there's other Elite players about.

Edit: Eyestrain is not really a thing, the lenses focus at infinity, so it's not like focussing on a screen 2 inches away. The resolution was definitely a thing, even a fibre or mote of dust getting on the screen was noticeable.

you cant measure it like that, my 42inch tv would looks rubbish up close but a 1080 5inch mobile screen much better, high dpi is what you want :)

Which is what I said, dpi isn't high enough. Higher than 1080p means higher dpi  the closer to the eye the smaller the eye can resolve.

That was scary on DK1... really hope they support DK2 too!

For those of you with DK2 try the two demos here: http://www.riftaway.com/ The Cyber Space DK2 really gives you the feel of a fairground ride. My stomach literally turned upside down when it span round.

Thanks, just downloaded it now. It does look like a stomach churner. Something like this would be fantastic on rift - http://www.nolimitscoaster.com/

About to try Elite: Dangerous.

As far as "is 1080p enough" the answer is no - but it looks pretty good. If I had to compare it to running against, say, a standard 1080p monitor, it would be like running a 1024x768 game with faint black lines around the pixels. The thing is, the immersion factor of this new Dev Kit is 10x better than on DK1, because of the higher res & positional tracking. It just feels more real.

Yep roller coasters were fun on DK1, and tonight on DK2 I've tried this one: https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8266. It's ok, but a bit too fast for my liking, and I didn't like the lighting/sense of depth.

There is a good list forming on Reddit of DK2-specific demos/games:
http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2btu2o/unofficial_list_of_dk2_demos_and_resources/

I've tried running Euro Truck Simulator 2 but no luck getting Oculus mode going yet.

Ok Elite Dangerous is pretty awesome.

You do get a real sense of presence within the cockpit. Being able to peer through one of the upper glass panels and see a faint streak of dust/matter coating the ship is quite amazing. The biggest issue is the small text on the nav/control panels - it's just too small for the res of even the DK2, but is just readable if you peer forwards (i.e. bend your head towards the positional camera).

Graphically it's pretty stunning though - and it has a real "dogfighter" feel of being able to look around you as you manoever. This kind of game feels perfect for VR.

No demo as it's in beta stage, there are plenty of videos though on youtube that will give you a insight to how the game looks and feels and what it offers.

Can you get a demo? I don't like handing over £50 for what looks like a space sim that I would only play once or twice.
