You'll be surprised what the 970 can do when the VR specific optimisations are enabled, up to a 50% reduction in the pixel requirements for rendering and that's without taking into account the performance boost you'll get from DX12 alone.

Ive got a 970 so am looking forward to those!

I must say, the Vive definitely gets my blood pumping much more than the consumer version of the Oculus. The tracking alone seems miles ahead of the camera based solution that Oculus seems to be sticking with.

Just hope it's reasonably affordable!! With the controllers plus the Lighthouse boxes, presumably it's gonna be in the £4-500 bracket.

Yes its looking rosy indeed :D

I also heard that developers can still use DK2 for uhh developing programs etc to be released on the Vive.

My Dk2 somehow fixed itself so now i'm salivating over how great Elite looks in the DK2. They released an update (1.3) that optimized VR a little as well as a bunch of other stuff.

Im actually glad i spent the 300 squids :D I also didnt want to wait any longer to play Elite because unfortunately its a bit like an MMO...where soon enough most folk will be in vulture/anacondas ie harder for newbies (if in open).

Dont think its a waste of money as ill still be using it come dec/jan 6 or 7 months away and its had more of an impact (wow factor) than i would say...buying a new 980gtx. What else am i gonna spend 300 quid on? :D

BETTER NOT HAVE INTEGRATED HEADPHONES! I do not want to be forced to listen to audio on trashy cheap headphones.

I'll use my own.

Ugh, seriously loosing count by the number of times I've posted this on various forums and usergroups but honestly, your complete lack of understanding, foresight and elitism is laughable.

Anyway, here I go again...

Even if your headphones at 10000x betters than anyone else could ever make, understand that by simply including (rumored to be removable) headphones you'll benefit from the developers being able to target a sound device that everyone is known to have.

Oculus have invested millions in buying software and resources from companies that specialise in 3D positional audio. These are technologies that only work with headphones so it's makes business sense to make sure everyone can experience all the effort they're putting into this tech.

Without headphones developers would have to target "movable" headphone audio and "static" speakers audio, splitting the workload and ultimately decreasing the quality of their work for everyone.

Also consider that these headphones will likely be very much a "reference" quality. Developers are able to create their games with these specific devices in mind - but if someone swaps out their headphones, fine.

Ultimately, regardless of your stance on the matter, you're going to benefit.

I very much doubt they will be cheap crappy headphones, Palmer himself is a total audiophile, everyone that has used the CB demo headset have commented about how good the sound is.

Also, this. Palmer has described their audio solution as doing "audio as well as they do video" - which, having tried many iterations of the Oculus Rift, I can say I'm looking forward to trying too.

EDIT: Oh, and don't even get me started on the wires! Adding your own headphones adds more wires that I'd happily not require in a heartbeat.
