OCZ Vertex Owners Thread - Test Results

If your using Intel chipset, theres a new sata driver that supposed to fix hanging on SSD's when waking from idle.

There is also going to be a new firmware out soon which may fix problems a few people have been having whilst boosting read and write speeds further.

Wonder how long it will take for Apple to implement.. the issues with Leopard not starting etc after sleep etc are known issues.. so I'd expect these in 10.5.7..

Thanks for the links to the OCZ forums, they have rounded my viewpoint alittle. I was obviously a little bit behind the times on this subject.

New 1275 firmware is due for release tomorrow which promises further speed increases. I will update the benchmarks as soon as it is released to give people an idea whether it is worth upgrading. Tony from the OCZ forum has reported the following increases:-

1199 Firmware: single drive 1199 150 writes 225 reads
1275 Firmware: single drive 1275 200 writes 250 reads

I have looked on the OCZ website but I just want to confirm. Can I buy one of the Vertex, plug it in via USB to update the firmware, and then install it in the PC via SATA and install a clean Vista. After that will the SSD be aligned and everything by itself? Or will I have to tweak it some how?

Personally have been having no end of problems with my 60gb vertex on ICH10R. I've had to reinstall my system 3 times in the last 2 days due to freezes resulting in BSODS of which vista could not repair, sometimes even see it at all afterwards.

I'm gonna try the 1275 firmware if it comes out today and if it continues to happen then I'm going back to mechanical.

Its worth taking time out to read this article posted yesterday from anandtech. It's long but about 2/3rds the way in, there is a section on the vertex.

Thats a really interesting read which i think most people with SSD's don't realise.

Nice fast speeds when new but over time it slows down quite a lot but still faster than a normal hard drive though.

60Gb too small for OS drive, 80Gb is big enough. Therefore either 3x30, 2x60, 1x120 Vertex or the Intel. Therefore prices actually basically the same, so know what I'm going for next week, and it's not made by OCZ.
