Are the engines and the rest of the car the same but one has the turbo but the other doesn't or is there more to it than that?

Pretty much with a few differences, mainly being injector size (doesn't really matter until you hit 400BHP+), compression ratio (this is important) and inlet manifold location (you have to get a little fancy with the intercooler piping).

The compression ration is higher on the GE engine being NA which means puting more than 0.8 bar of boost is a lot more risky than in the GTE engine, however the advantage on the high compression means you can acheive a very responsive turbo set up, with a T61 turbo for example (the one I am looking at!). So a GE will never bee able to reach mental power levels of the GTE 700BHP+ but 400BHP+ is very possible with larger injectors, autobox cooler and uprated fuel pump.

the kit I'm looking at should net me between 300 and 320BHP and 350+ with a good map on the e-manage piggyback ECU.

Niiiiiiccce!!!!! Standard turbos?

XS T61 Turbo.

So did the person who ordered it... until it arrived

lol looks that way

BMW dealer would'nt order a car in individual colour like that as a demonstrator, too hard to shift on.

That's been traded in because he thought he liked the colour, then when it arrived realised he didnt like it.

Not like there are a wealth of other cars to get an idea of the colour from either, if there was only 1 other in the country at the time.

The high compression issue with the GE is easily sorted, you don't even need to crack the block open and fit TT pistons that many people seem to think. All that is needed is a thicker headgasket.

On another note, what do people think to this?

The colour is frozen grey I think (wrap). Its growing on me. :)

Sounds impressive! Are you going to get it done this week in time for the rr? Overnight from Japan?;)

That'll be a serious power jump! Bet your excited!

You know what? This will decimate all, after, you put about fifteen grand in it or more.

:D :p

Honestly.. and this isn't something I would normally say, but the wheels look too small! Glad to see function over form though!

Think they are just for track. ;)

Yeah but just swapping the headgasket is abit of a big was of doing it and I wouldn't be happy running more than 1 bar of boost even with the thicker HG.

Nah not intime for the RR, still doing my research atm. Tyres and brakes are higher on the agenda however!

I don't see why you wouldn't be happy with more than 1 bar. The GE is capable of handling more than that with ease with the CR lowered.
