oh yeah I forgot, look what I found!

he wont transfer the plate though because he is a trader and it would add another owner to it to transfer the plates apparently

is this true?

might make this a new thread

It's not true because he states:

NO OFFERS AND THIS WILL BE A PRIVATE SALE.

He claims its his own car. Therefore he can quite easily transfer the plate.

I'm desperately trying to justify another car to myself.

I'm dead tempted by this

Not perfect, but its a late sport, black on black, manual and a LSD. Sounds well looked after too :).

Alternatively, this bottom of the barrel MK2 MR2 and more or less run it into the ground.
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2778457.htm

I know it is horrendously tatty, but its £650!

Alternatively I'm tempted to give trading old bangers on the side a go. I've dabbled in the past, but I've never had the guts to do it on a regular basis.

I'm tempted to pay pmkeates to get it back, he loves sticking it to the man*

*I realise after I wrote this the irony but quite honestly the original statement wasn't actually intended to be funny!!

have I burnt my legal help now pmkeates? I knw you love arguing with people! :)

If that is a genuine 535i Sport then I would risk that. I very nearly bought one instead of the ST200!

What do we reckon I could get for it once I got the arch sorted, the leather colonized, the dink pulled out (all of those things I can have done for 'mates rates', so aren't too expensive), the reps binned, a nice set of genuine original BBS wheels on in their place and a general tidy up cosmetically and mechanically?

I'm willing to give it a punt (if it is still for sale when I get back next week) but only if I'm going to make/not lose out too much.

Na, you should get this instead http://pistonheads.com/sales/2904774.htm :D

Go into it with your eyes open. Those values aint going anywhere but down for a while yet and you will need to have deep pockets to get it to and keep it minty enough to make it a realistic proposition for a value increase in the future.

If I was looking for a car as a value thing I would get a 525i Sport - they are the better car.

I <3 arguing. BMW are sending me a cheque for 67p this week after I was charged 20.4p to send them a customer feedback SMS, Vision Express are wishing they never sold me a pair of glasses and I'm currently debating my avenues for complaint after receiving a Vauxhall Astra 'courtesy car' while BMW were fixing my wheels.

What is the situation?

I remember you telling me this that's why I mentioned it :D

guy is selling my old car, with my plate on it, he says because he is a trader there is no way he can transfer the plate because it would mean adding another owner to the v5. he is a very nice guy so maybe he doesnt know how the system works (I certainly don't!)

if I was to get my plate back I'm not entirely sure how happy I would be :D

I'm not expecting to make loads, but I want to at least break even (more or less). I'm not longer into car ownership for the long haul, I tried that with the Soarer and didn't really enjoy it. I'm about getting in, owning a car that I want to own, tidying it up a bit and getting out a few months down the line with my bank balance still intact when boredom sets in.

Your 'about'? How do you know when you've not even done it :p

Its what I used to do before the Toyota. Between the day I got my provisional and the day I received my first year's NCB I had 5+ cars in the space of about 15 months :).

Its something that I really want to go back to. Its much more interesting than throwing a load of cash at one car for a long period of time. Variety is the spice of life. That's probably why 'trading' cars on the side has always been an attractive hobby to me . Unfortunately the cars that will likely turn a profit for me tend to be the exact opposite of the cars that make up my 'To own' list, hence why I've never really bothered properly.

Alternate then. Start with a little bargain 106 that'll make you some money, then do your BMW, then do something small with a large profit potential again etc. etc.

I do like MR2s. I'd love a MK1, but all of the cheap ones have more filler in the arches than metal. I'd like a MK2, but I don't think I could resist the temptation of getting a Turbo (and therefore the Soarer like running costs) and MK3s are a little too modern for my taste.

Truth be told i wouldn't mind a MX5 either, but I've got my doubts that I'd fit.
