You know how many dis loyal thieving little degree holding supposedly good, well spoken trainees iv had, too many, its time for a new approach.

My partner Dave found a good one about 3 years ago (because his son is useless too) and the kids flying now, you can send him anywhere, up the office, to a shop anything very reliable.

What do you do if you don't mind me asking? :)

Nah. We drifted apart after he got shut down and (I think) went to Uni. He was a strange one :D.

That must have been about 5/6 years ago. I've been on the internet for FAR too long :(.

Lol I first spoke to you around that time. He was a strange one lol.

What are the older (02/03/04) Saab 9-5s like?

Seems like a lot of the car for the money but I'm worried one might be a bit 'ordinary'?

Seriously Joshy?

Note to self: don't bother offering advice to Joshy.

No, no. I've taken what you've said fully on board but there ain't any harm in looking.

I think I might go test drive some of the competition just to put my mind to rest. Problem is that I don't think as a 19 year old turning up looking to have a test drive in old XJ jags, A8 Audis, 7 Series BMWs and Saab 9-5s that I'm going to be taken seriously enough :p.

Don't get me wrong I do love my soarers. Awesomely underestimated cars and for the money I had to spend last year, I'm convinced that I couldn't do ANY better given what I wanted. I might even save myself a few quid and go for a better speced V8 . My main issue with mine is the lowered suspension making the ride a bit **** and the lack of toys. The model of V8 I'd want has the sublime active hydraulic suspension and just about every toy you'd expect from a luxury car produced even today. Heated seats electric seats, touch screen sat nav, tv and trip computer, auto dipping and ultrasonic mirriors mirrors, soft touch indicators , 4 wheel steering, they've got it all. Awesome cars and I could pick up a minter for £2k-£2.5k.

So your idea of something interesting is a Saab 9-5?

I thought that was the complete opposite of what you want from a car?

Wait....I've just read that last part again; your ideal car, the V8, is within budget yet you're asking about SAABs? :s

I think you should put that statement as your sig because you seem to repeat it in every post. :p

They're cheap, well speced and rate as 'Not that slow' on the wrapped Joshy speed-o meter so I though they might be worth half a look.

You're right. I do want something 'interesting'. It's the only way I can justify having a car full stop. Put it this way, i've done 10 tens this week. 10! That that was me getting a curry for **** sake. Having something that makes me smile just by being able to say 'I own a XXXXXX' makes the minimum 4 digit insurance premiums and the weekends spent on my back, swearing while cover in oil worth it. I'd sooner get a bus then drive something 'normal'. I've got the train for work and tesco express is within walking distances. Why do I need a car other than for enjoyment? :).

I think that I value bang for buck more than anything. A relatively quick decently sized saloon car made in centurion for around £3k is worth investigating in my book

I should.

The amount of flack I get for it sometimes. Not just here but at work. Some people absolutely love it to the point where I get 'Nice car mate' and blokes coming to me at petrol stations to talk about it, some people like to have a dig but at the end of the day it has served it purpose well. I wanted to move away from my old hardcore 205 GTI and retain that feeling of something that is ******* quick and is a bit of fun to drive whilst being comfortable and it has served its purpose ****ing well. People massively underestimate them. It's old, it's Japanese, it must be built crap, the electrics must be complicated, etc.I know people are going to call me a fanboy and all that nonsense but you tell me another comfortable quick car I could run on an apprentice wage? 0-60 in 5 seconds odd and 160MPH+ with reliability for a grand. I've had plays with Caymans/Boxsters worth 20 times+ what my car is worth and still got a genuine thumbs up at the end of it. I ****ing love my car, so what replaces it will have to be genuinely ****ing awesome to make me part with those keys.

I think I've said it before, if I keep it and spend some money on it I'm not going to ever sell it. I just want to be sure that making the sort of commitment is the right thing to do :).

I not going to turn this into a Soarer love in, I will say that pretty much everything in the Soarer is good or can be made good with spending a few hundred quid here and there. It's a great base car to work with if you like modifying and that's a reason why I bought on. Unfortunately I always planned that I'd have more money to spend on it than I had in real life :p
