It won't ever handle like a Lotus Elise though.

No, but I value my back and my ability to get my considerable bulk in and out of my car with a bit of dignity too much to be considering an Elise or MX5 :D.

At the end of the day it is a 1600kg+ car, but that doesn't make that it'll handle like a dog. Remember the chassis and running gear is very similar to the Toyota Supra and that had a damn good pop at 911 Turbos back in its day.

The amount of flack I get for it sometimes. Not just here but at work. Some people absolutely love it to the point where I get 'Nice car mate' and blokes coming to me at petrol stations to talk about it, some people like to have a dig but at the end of the day it has served it purpose well. I wanted to move away from my old hardcore 205 GTI and retain that feeling of something that is ******* quick and is a bit of fun to drive whilst being comfortable and it has served its purpose ****ing well. People massively underestimate them. It's old, it's Japanese, it must be built crap, the electrics must be complicated, etc.I know people are going to call me a fanboy and all that nonsense but you tell me another comfortable quick car I could run on an apprentice wage? 0-60 in 5 seconds odd and 160MPH+ with reliability for a grand. I've had plays with Caymans/Boxsters worth 20 times+ what my car is worth and still got a genuine thumbs up at the end of it. I ****ing love my car, so what replaces it will have to be genuinely ****ing awesome to make me part with those keys.

We know this, you've said it about a billion times!

How is a SAAB 9-5 going to fulfill the gap that the Soarer would leave?

One minute you're singing its praises, the next minute you're saying you don't want to spend any money on it.

Keep it, don't spend too much on it and get something better in a couple of years.... if you have the 'new car' itch try to seek out a £500 bargain that you can run for 6 months, a Rover turbo would do!

Sorry if I'm repeating myself a bit, I just don't think some people have gotten the message yet? ;).

Its got a slightly better/grown up imagine that I feel that I'd prefer. Usually I don't care, but tearing through posh parts of London at 11PM in a blacked out coupe with massive exhausts can make a person a little bit self consistence :D.

The main issue is that I can't not spend 'Too much' on it. I've been dealing with it being in its tatty state for over a year and I'm getting wound up. I'll drop an easy grand on it before I realize what I'm doing. It 'needs' new front brakes, a few bushes, replacement/refurbed wheels, and a bit of paint before I'm vaguely happy, and that's before we start modifying things. I can spend another couple of quid on that alone.

I can and am willing to do it, if it's the right thing to do. If a XJ or A8 or 7 series or 9-5 or GS430 or whatever won't measure up I'll spend the money and be happy, but I don't want to spend money I haven't got a chance getting back without knowing that its the right this to do.

This is the point of no return and I need a bit of a push to get over it. Once I go past this point I'm going to be very 'What's the point of selling it' Because I'm going to have too much cash tied up in it to make the grand some **** will offer me for it when It comes to selling it seem worth it.

Wheels you can refurb yourself. Brakes can't cost too much? Can't imagine bushes costing the Earth either?

Absolutely no need to modify a car that does "0-60 in 5 seconds odd and 160MPH+ with reliability".

I'd hazard a guess that you will want to spend money on any £3k car that you buy where as if you spend let's say £500 of that on your existing car it'll keep you happy for the short-term.

Obviously the choice is yours but I've been there, done that....

Surely you have some panel beater mates in the trade? Get them to spruce up the wheels, in a nice silver and sort out bits on the car.

Be a nice car after that, is it the turbo version? Are these not damn quick?

Went out for a drive today and overtook a clio on a country road, what followed was getting given the ****** sign and when I got caught up in traffic half a mile up the road some tail gating and what looked like him writing my reg down...

Haters will hate...

Come on Hurfdurf. I thought we were homies? :(

Anybody who doubts that comment is welcome to have a look at the press of around the supra was released. Many felt that it was a contender aganist 911s and I think there are a few group tests with a Supra coming on top floating around.

Hate to get all anoraky but the front suspension system is nearly identical between the Supra and Soarer, baring slightly softer bushes and different anti roll bar for the soarer as it was the more luxurious car of the two. The rear suspension is a bit more different but everything for a supra will bolt up with minimum fuss. Weight wise a poverty spec car like mine isn't too far off a Supra so that isn't a worry. Brakes are already the same as import supras, the ones from a UK car just bolt on, as do dampers, springs, aftermarket arms, etc.

There is a good base there to work with if handling was really my thing. This is my point. People underestimate them a bit :).

Does anyone watch wheeler dealers on sky ? The new series is quite good with some decent level cars that aren't silly money,

Been watching this since I can remember :) New series has been pretty good although why put it on discovery instead of discovery turbo? cmon sky stop trying to confuse me, they should know that my tv & sky is pre tuned to Turbo.
