Had to change the Westfield's starter motor today. Makes a hideous noise, and taking it off you can see the damage. Fortunately we've got a couple of different Brise ones. The cause?..

Was at Combe on Friday. Westfield was running really well. Took a few goes to get through the sound test to start with though. I don't know about you guys, but I always like seeing other cars on track just for seeing how quick they really are:
There was a GTR out. Now obviously you can't tell how good the driver is and how hard they're pushing, but I was disappointed with it. Really good acceleration (moreless on a par with the Westfield TBH) but come to a corner and it's soo slow, and as Combe doesn't have massive straights for the GTR to stretch it's legs the overall lap time was a lot lower than I was expecting. Sad really as that's one of my hero cars :(.
There was a couple of Focus RSs out. One had an extra badge under the RS logo (dunno what it was). Now I have to say they were both a lot faster than I was expecting a FWD hatch with 5seats, aircon, etc to be. Definitely gone up in my book .
Radicals stayed in their trucks all day (testing on Thurs and racing this W/E) so Dad driving the Westfield was the fastest thing out.

My idiot brother just kerbd my alloy, less than 5 minutes behind the wheel! :( I didn't even want to let him drive but he's older than me so not really a choice... not happy :(

You didn't have a choice because he is older than you?

Erm I think the words **** off would have been slung by me quickly followed by get the walled out you **** ******** ****.

For the BMW 520d, it would have to be atleast a 57 plate to have the new 177BHP efficient dynamics engine right?

So any 520d with 07 plate or earlier cannot have that engine, and has the 163BHP engine?

Just wondering because there's one on autotrader right now with 07 plate which said 163BHP until today when he's changed it to 177BHP, probably because it has the LCI interior.

Not really because I'd just let my sister drive it so I couldn't have double standards if you know what I mean. I think I'm just too nice. I know its "just an alloy" but I'm ****ing gutted, only had the car five days and there wasn't a scratch on it, now the windows scratched within 2 hours and the alloys scratched quite badly too :(

He's still a student doing his phd, I'm paying his mortgage!

Isn't it just a case of "I trust her to drive the car sensibly, I don't trust you to do the same..."?

He may not appreciate it much but equally if he's going to damage your possessions and it bothers you then he can't expect you to keep allowing him to do it. Not that this is any use after the event though, sorry.

It took me a while to "get" HurfDurf, that stand and bang thing used to annoy me, as it seemed like he was trying too hard to get something started/be alpha...

As soon as I'd worked out that much of it is tongue in cheek, and not taking himself too seriously, the whole HurfDurf thing was much funnier...

I've got a lot of time for the likes for Gilly/Freefaller/Von[EDIT]/Gibbo[/EDIT] (amongst others), & I get that the mod thing is often a thankless task, but it seems that at least part of the support for HurfDurf comes from a dislike of some recent moderation that comes across as a petty vendetta.

I'd taken the whole "campaign" as being a bit of fun, but it does seem odd that bar FreeFaller [EDIT]& Gibbo[/EDIT], the Motors mods don't seem to express much of an interest in cars, and subsequently don't "get" much of the banter, because they aren't around to take part?

Thing is HurfDurf, if the boss' son takes a dislike to you, your only hope is the boss sees you in a similar light to the way he did with Kanes a few years back...

I prefer FreeFallers easy-going approach. If letting NathWraith focus on other areas of the forum that interest him, and promoting HurfDurf sees more FF-style modding, then I'd vote for that...

Have I missed a thread? I've seen references to I-Drive and an M5, but wasn't sure?

Side-stepping the cultural stuff, *if* you're running a V10 M5, then a bit of glass polish, and a wheel refurb shouldn't be too onerous. I get that's not the point, just offering a little support for getting it back to P&J condition... :)

Nah you've not missed one, I've not had a chance to take any proper pictures or anything yet.

So much skepticism on the forums ;)

Cheers for the advice, I'm going to get everything cleaned up when I'm back from Glastonbury next week anyway. Still doesn't stop me feeling gutted though :(

Lots of people getting some really nice cars on here now :)

And sadly I think I prefer the recent BMW purchases (535, 335, M5s etc) - what have you done to me OCUK? Or maybe it's just because some have twin turbos and the others have 5l V10s :D

Wasn't skepticism, just acknowledging that I was putting 2+2 together, and that I hadn't seen you confirm it... :)

IE, a V10 M5 has got to be a good 25k's worth of kit (?), but if I'd got it wrong and either the M5 or the I-Drive reference were unrelated, then my point about the relative cost to restore it to it's former glory not being the end of the world would have been somewhat diluted... :)

My bad :) Will "confirm" it soon, gotta give it a clean and break out the old camera first. Swear I've killed over a billion flies in less than a week!

With respect, I haven't got a clue what you drive, or what you're like.

The first I knew of you being a Motors mod (or even poster) was in that thread that was stickied months ago. I agreed with some of the sentiment in there, I think some people here can be downright rude, and while "refreshing honesty" is important, so are good manners. That said, the thread came across as disjointed and ill-prepared imo. Some of us that have been here for a decade or more *felt* that some mods with varying degrees of youthful exuberance, had rocked up and stamped their mark across a forum they didn't contribute to. The way the message was delivered *seemed* to undermine those who do contribute, and in particular those who do contribute and moderate "gently".

The yellow edits, tagged by FF in a "I don't take myself too seriously" kind of way, are noticed and appreciated. Hence my mention of FF. I wrongly forgot Gibbo, but again only because I see him as a member (like FF), but don't see Gibbo's yellow edit mod efforts. Both popular, funny, and regularly present. Like HurfDurf as it happens (although I don't know what he drives either).

I mentioned NathWraith because I see him as childish and antagonistic. The worst culprit, and the weakest mod. HD might not be the very first choice for an extra motors mod, but would make a much better substitute imo.

I didn't mention you because the only thing I know about you is that you're a mod. I have no axe to grind about that, but the only messages I see you post *seem* to be mod related and *seem* to be an example of you taking yourself a tad more seriously than FF or Gibbo, rather than taking an interest in the topic. Truth be told that probably wouldn't even be noticed if it weren't for the atmosphere generated by resentment for the polarity between the excellent FF, and NW. FWIW, I did sympathise with the thankless task, and didn't single you out neither for praise nor criticism...

I'm probably digging my own grave here, but FWIW I rtm'd an example of an inflamatory NW post a couple of months back, which wasn't acknowleged, even if it wasn't ignored. I rtm'd that time rather than drag a thread off topic. In this instance you prompted a response, and we are in the OT thread... :)

I appreciate what you're saying Kingy. And I'll put my hands up and admit that when I became a mod I was perhaps too heavy handed in Motors. But I'd like to think that I've changed and think that a more relaxed approach is beneficial to everyone and helps keep a nice atmosphere in here with plenty of banter for everyone's entertainment.

That stickied thread was a bad idea, although I'll say that it wasn't just me thinking it, it was discussed amongst the mod team and it clearly backfired.

What I drive and what I'm like? Well I'll shamefully admit my Micra ownership (I'm sure there's a pic or two somewhere) and I'd like to think that I'm relaxed and easy going. Perhaps we'll meet over a drink at the next meet whenever that may be? :)
