But it’s not ‘locked’ behind micro transactions, it’s still available to unlock the normal way by playing the game.

Where the problems lie is making normal progress grindy and convoluted to force people to take the “easy” option. This is particularly prevalent in MP battle royals style games but less of a problem in SP.

Ok locked is the wrong word when they are obtainable in game (though scarcity is a factor that influences this), fact remains it's a predatory tactic.

Not sure why the backlash is "bewildering" to you unless you've just started gaming and these are reactions are new to you, otherwise it shouldn't be bewildering anymore that this is something people complain about.

I've just had Rise of the Ronin pop through my door, so I will probably focus on that for now whilst this gets some update/patches done, I'll dabble here though and see how the early game is.

Got a 3 day weekend so bit more time to mess about :)

Nice, same for me but it's the same every week as I do condensed hours. I'm going to spend it arguing about microtransactions apparently* :D

*This is false

No, I mean it’s bewildering that people assume ‘locked’ when it isn’t. I don’t mean this to get at you but more the YouTubers and so on.

Oh I see, sorry got wires crossed. Yeah I read the hysterics this morning, then I read about the nature of the items, and whilst I will always maintain having these transactions sucks generally, it doesn't appear to be blocking people out who can't afford it etc.
There was one thing mentioned, some sort of camping pack that enables a unique item in game but seemed to be a one off.

Youtubers will make a drama out of anything in their pathetic desperation to get views.

There's a DLSS frame gen mod/unlocker available on Nexus Mods, I highly recommend using that if you can, as it's boosted my FPS by like 40-50 (on an RTX 4080). It's this one here: https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonsdogma2/mods/39

Ah, sorry, I didn't realise it had already been mentioned.

I will be interesting if/when the official support for frame generation comes as there's another mod from a little while back that's also just a dll file that you can use to enable the FSR 3 frame generation in it's place on older GPUs (as far back as the RTX 2000 series if I recall).

I used that on Cyberpunk on Warhammer Darktide and saw a performance boost of +75%, so potentially that might be an option here in the future for those of us on older cards.

Yes, they create problems in the game, in order to sell you the solution, it's basically a tax on fun

I try to avoid Reddit where possible, but I saw a meme about this game and I'm glad to say the majority of people were actually taking the **** out of micro transaction defenders (minority)

Tried the 2h freebie on steam. Plays like a janky AA game, what the hell.

I've always considered it (and DD1) to be an AA game, for me its akin to the Gothic series or Elex 1/2. Not sure I really agree with this labelling of it as a AAA game.

I always find travelling in games fun, I very rarely fast travel in any game, single player, co-op or MMO. In fact, in most games that have mounts I even go so far as to not use the mounts generally and prefer to walk/run everywhere to see/experience the gameworld. Then again, as mentioned before, I'm not the average gamer ;)

You can miss a lot of things zooming around games so I get the appeal for sure.

Yeah, plus I sort of feel for the graphic artists and designers (in hand crafted worlds) who go to all these lengths to make the worlds look realistic and interesting and then people just bypass the world and portal everywhere :D , then again I will spend hours and hours in reality just looking at a lake or a mountain so perhaps I have a special affinity for landscape lol

Runs pretty poorly as widely covered. The old 5800X and 3080 does okay in the open world with RT off, 4K DLSS performance. Capped at 60fps with g-sync to smooth it out. I just reached the fabled stutter town and it is indeed a mess that not even VRR can do anything to help.

All the tech issues aside, I'm still really enjoying the game.
