The new US F1 team is lining up Jose Maria Lopez as its first driver - provided the 26-year-old Argentine can put together a full sponsorship package.
Lopez announced on his personal website that he had concluded a provisional deal with US F1 after a visit to its factory in North Carolina earlier this week.

So another seat filled, Only another 10 + a lot of test drivers to go.

not so sure, the sponsorship package i've heard is meant to be around $8m - lot of money for a pretty much unknown to come up with (unless he's another Diniz)
Mabe unknown to people who only follow F1, but for People who follow other forms of Motorsport he is very well known and also very well known for being Very quick.

That earned him a place on Renault's driver development programme, and he was the team's F1 test driver for a while.

They wouldn't give him provisional place if they didn't think it was likely to get it. Most teams will have cars ready for testing at the end of December, so they haven't got a lot of time to mess about signing and dropping drivers.

Okay, i stand corrected, should have read the link first :o.

Good record in the junior catergories, only issue the (apart from the money) is making the switch back from tin top to single seater - last guy that i remember trying to do that was Jan Magnussen (and that didnt end to well)

Hasnt got any recent experience (three years out is pretty long time imo) and also he couldnt regulrarly win in GP2 so why would he be any good in F1?

Has Anthony Davidson actually been signed up by anyone - he was fabulous on commentary but would prefer to see him racing again

Three months ago they were saying that they shouldn't accept a driver just cause they bring funding... and now they have provisionally signed a driver so long as he brings $8m!

the two aren't necessarily exclusive though. There is a lot of extra seats to fill, he has F1 experience. Just because he can bring money, doesn't automatically make it the only reason they are getting him.

I was just explaining the connection... didn't mean I agreed with it.

It's very quiet on that front. He's been doing press work for Merc recently.

with all these new teams coming in - one should really snap him up rather than going for GP2 racers from yesteryear that werent that successful to start with (after all AD has developement experience of Honda/Brawn, and some racing experience in F1 -although admittedly the latter is a few years ago) - but this year proves how bad "general" racing drivers do in F1 although midseason probably doesnt help

Im in 2 minds about Davidson, as I expect many are. I would love him to get a drive as he is half decent, british, and has a good "i dont give a dam, im gonna race my socks off" attittude, but at the same time, I love his 5 Live commentary alongside Crofty... :(

I think Davidson would be a good bet due to his experience. What about GP2 driver Karun Chandhok...Indian driver, shown flashes of potential but not good enough in my opinion. He claims to be negotiating with 3 teams.

With the Indian GP in 2011 he might have decent enough backing to maybe get in?

Hope not, ill trust vijay maillia on one thing, he can spot when a driver is definitely not ready to get in an f1 car.... (well his statement a few years ago saying that there wasnt an indian racer ready for f1 was basically it) and if someone new and untested was to come to force india surely wouldnt they have got some sort of involvement on the go whilst luizzi was in teh race seat over the last few races as nothings as bad as someone new not getting enough time to get to know the team....

On the plus Davidson back in a drive would be good
