***Official 2010 F1 thread***

Simon Gillett was becoming an utter joke and even an embarrassment sounding more like a politician with his inability to answer a question so I am not surprised it has failed.

He's been a joke for a few months now.

Really really hope Vatanen wins tomorrow but my head just says its never going to happen :(

Toad is going to win and be operated by Max by a method that Max is both familiar with and enjoys...

Are any of Zolder, Kyalami or Zandvoort currently likely to be able to pay Ecclestone's inflated charges to run a Formula One race?

Can any circuit that isn't government backed afford to pay Bernies rates?
Actually, even some that are government backed can't afford to pay Bernies rates.

I suspect that Ecclestone would very much have liked to run the British F1 GP at Donington Park - on his terms.

He'll be happy taking the money for breach of contract and not having a British GP, then selling the position to another track and making twice the amount out of one event.

Silverstone needs to be completely demolished and rebuilt.
Getting rid of that ridiculous last corner complex would be something too.

Build good facilities for both the teams and the paying public - doesn't even need to be world class - just something about 4 classes up from the outhouses thats there now. *unless you're a member of the BRDC and have first class facilities*

Then, drop the prices so that it's not cheaper to spend a week in Belgium than is it to go to the British GP

Then, maybe... I'll get behind the British GP

Been to Belgium for the GP recently? Ive been the last 2 years, and been to Silverstone the 3 years before that, all 5 times Bronze tickets.

Silverstone last time I went, Bronze weekend £150, including park and ride car parking. 2 hours drive each way at just over 100 miles, so a tank of fuel for Sat and Sun at £60.

Spa, Bronze weekend, 145 Euros, plus 25 Euros Fedex to ship them here. Then for the first year it was camping 3 nights at 40 Euros a night, plus 25 Euros to Fedex those, and then this year we stayed away from the circuit and paid 16 Euros a day parking plus 4 Euros each booking fee plus another 25 Euros to Fedex those! And this doesnt include the cost to get to and from Belgium.

With the exchange rate how it is 1 Euro pretty much equalled £1, so using the "its cheaper to spend a weekend in belgium than it is to spend a day at Silverstone" no longer stands. And in Belgium, other than the new pit complex, the rest of the track is grandstand free apart from a few scaffold structures, and the facilities are sheds selling hotdogs and porta loos.

The public facilities at Silverstone vastly exceed those at Spa, and the ticket price is now comparable (more in Spa if you want a grandstand, Gold was 450 Euros for a weekend!). So find better arguments against Silverstone.

I will agree about the track layout though. Spa is an epic circuit compaired to Silverstone. But no British GP would be a disaster.

As far as the track layout goes, putting it back like this....

....would be a good start. See the gang get some serious speed up!

:)

Was going to go this year, but surgery took priority.

Priced it up for me and I worked out that I'd save around £100 by going to Belgium with the other half as opposed to Silverstone.

Well, Bernie is determined that it's not going back to Silverstone..
Or compared to his last few statements... it might be...
...Or might not...

Either way - I certainly wouldn't miss it if we never had one again.

with a British champion it would be sacriledge to NOT have a British GP if you ask me

When there was a German Champ - Bernie did all he could to have 2 GP's in the country + England hosts majority of the pitlane and probably 80% of those who work in F1, yeah I think it would be very sad to not have Silverstone during a season, I still think its one of the crown jewels of F1

Yes it would help a hell of a lot to invest £50m + in the complex as a whole, but it would be just as wrong to scrap Monza, Spa or Monaco

Not really - I'd be quite happy to let Monaco go.

me to but im not a richy rich so it doesnt matter if the race is entertaining or not.

i bet if you asked everyone who actually watched all of the races on tv which is probably where bernie gets most of his money most would drop monaco

I don't know about that, I think Monaco does produce a better TV spectacle than some of the tracks. Qualifying at Monaco is great and the insane overtake attempts after the tunnel can be entertaining.

I'd keep Monaco.

Oh god - rumour mill ahoy!

Button to leave Brawn and sign with.... McLaren.

No thanks. Get Rosberg or Glock in the seat

I read that this morning too - well with either Rosberg or Glock as a team mate Lewis really wouldnt have any competition in the team, would be a complete white wash for two years + (maybe less from Rosberg but still a whitewash for the first year)

Huge risk for Button too, not even a gaurentee of a better car, although potentially would have better resources

If Button did that it would be all about the money...

Huge risk running against Lewis though, I certainly wouldn't back Button against Hamilton in the same car! But if he did win, he'd cement his record forever. Back to back championships and against an awesome team mate. He who dares?

Hamilton is on $27 million a year. Button would be able to demand similar to drive there. What can Brawn offer him next year? $5 million? Maybe he thinks he only wants to stay in the sport for another few years and retire mid thirties. Pocketing a few tens of million more over the next couple of years must be attractive to him.

I can only guess that he is currently feeling on top of the world, full of confidence. I bet he thinks he can beat Lewis.
