***Official 2010 F1 thread***

Whoa up there JRS, you just hang on one dog-gone minute!

Since when did Ferrari International Assistance start helping Renault

"You asked one of your drivers to deliberately crash, to allow the other to win the race, putting drivers, spectators and marshals at risk. You then covered it up, lied about it, and tried to blackmail your driver about it, and launched legal proceedings against them when they exposed you... but its ok, we will let you stay in the championship, keep the win, and not penalise 'the team' in any way..."

McLarens cheating put no lives at risk or compromise on safety, didnt effect the outcome of races, and was frankly a storm in a teacup, and they got excluded from the championship, and would have been excluded from the drivers championship if it wasnt for their imunity. Renaults crime was much worse and they got a slap on the rist and Alonso, the driver to gain the most from it, got absolutely no punishment for something there is no way he couldnt have known anything about.

But hey, inconsistency is the only consistent thing about the FIA.

You jest, surely?

Renault illegally obtain McLaren technical data - they go unpunished.

Renault release a car from a pitstop with a wheel that was clearly not attached just days after a promising young driver died in a race after a stray wheel clouted him - they go unpunished.

Renault have one of their drivers crash his car into a wall so that the other driver can get into a position where he can win the race - they go unpunished.

Renault International Assistance!

Its an "Old Boys Club" for the 21st century. About time really that the FIA were investigated into some of their behind the scenes dealings.

Intimidation and unsavoury behaviour, round 3.

Oh, this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better....

They allowed Briatore to be a Team manager and a personal manager at the same time - so surely thats no different!!

(Im sure FIA should have a "fit and proper" policy for team managers in some regard?)

Clear conflicts of interest are LOVED by the FIA - and they love Todt also lol

With regards to car design changes I would like to see:

No refuelling
Slick tyres to stay
No obligation to use every compound of tyre
The option of a hard tyre and a soft tyre with a noticable difference between them
Possible reintroduction of mild underbody venturi systems
Smaller front wings, less emphasis on external aero in general

That would suit me down to the ground I think. Looks like I belong in about 1990 :D

Although that is good. it still doesn't solve the problem of the only real design and innovation is aero.

We need a limited fuel amount and re allow engine design and remove all engine restrictions. Basically do what you want small turbo, or superhcarger. Maybe rotary or whatever. but this is eh fuel you have for the race.

Also allow for alter alternative fuel, electric/fuel cells/hydrogen. Or whatever. unlikely to be used in the near future. But shows that teams can start investing in the technology.

Allow innovation and design on kers. Introduce a weight limit and allow teams to recover as much energy as they can and use it for what ever they want on a lap. Not a stupid power and time limit. what innovation does that achieve.

That + Steel brakes :)

Agreed on all counts.

F1 purports to be inventing and improving technologies to reduce carbon emissions and help save the environment and all of the above make serious moves towards achieving that aim.

I don't like the no refueling it will be boring.

But I would like to say well done to the scot Dario Franchitti on winning the Indycar championship ;)
Wonder if Danica Patrick will come to F1?

We had no refueling for DECADES before 1994, F1 was not boring during that time.

EDIT

A decade, not decades, I'm feeling all dramatic this morning :D

You mean watching prost going around slow looking after his tires(boring) and mansell and senna going like a bat out of hell
but then running out of fuel on the last laps.

I have been going\watching F1\Drag racing since I was 8 thats 44 years of racing
And the last few years have been the best to me. Bring back manual gear change and keep the slick tires.
Why do you think they got rid of no refueling in the first place?

F1 races did imo tend to be very dull in the good old days, back then it was the innovative engineering that kept my interest. Now the engineering has become very mature to a high standard. I think the sensible way forward would be fuel economy but the trouble is you also need to drive down costs. Although I suppose costs that improve fuel economy would be well spent.

Wouldn't you want to keep the wider front wings and have smaller rear wings?
