Vatanen: Renault would be 'right to quit' F1

Defeated FIA presidential candidate Ari Vatanen has hit out at the powers-that-be, saying Renault would be "right to quit" Formula One given the sport's recently controversial history.
.,,
"If you analyse it Renault is right, they are a serious international corporation and not loonies like Max Mosley has called them, they are just very disillusioned with the governance of Formula One," the 57-year-old Finn told CNN. "(Renault) would stay in the FIA Championship if the sport was known for positive news and if it was a good avenue for marketing and promotion - but Formula One is only known for conflict, crisis and court cases recently, and big companies cannot afford that. We must realize the economic realities is nothing to do with the crisis. Big companies always look to market and promote, even when times are tough, but only if it is in a sensible way. I do hope ([Renault do not leave), but if they do it is the final alarm call that we cannot continue with business as usual. I'm sad to say the old guard are still in power in the FIA but teams are starting to vote with their feet."

Vatanen, however, is not the only one who believes Max Mosley's reign did more damage than good as Ferrari released their own statement earlier this week blaming the former president.

"The reality is that this gradual defection from the F1 fold has more to do with a war waged against the major car manufacturers by those who managed Formula 1 over the past few years, than the result of any economic crisis" the Scuderia said. I really can't believe Ferrari complaining about F1. Remind me how much they were being paid under the counter by The Dwarf for gracing F1 with their continued presence?

Ferrari are a bunch of whinging hypocrites

LOL stockhausen. Ferrari were complaining about the FIA, Bernie runs FOM. Subtle difference, I can see why you'd have trouble distinguishing between the two. I mean, it's not like one is the governing body of world motorsport and one is the company representing the commercial interests of F1....

Oh.

Fair comment, I can entirely see that there is absolutely no connection between the FIA and the FOM. Now that I come to think of it, the S&M bloke and the Gnome were barely even on speaking terms despite their one-time involvement with FOCA and friendship going back for some 40 years. I can see now that there would be absolutely no reason for them to have even vaguely similar objectives

So. when is this deadline that Silverstone have to sign up on the deal they rejected 18 months ago that started the whole Donnington saga? Ive read '48 Hours', but with no indication of when this countdown actually started?

F1 commercial rights-holder Bernie Ecclestone has issued Silverstone with an ultimatum – sign a deal within the next 48 hours (from Thursday Nov 5th), or the British Grand Prix will be definitively pulled from the 2010 world championship schedule. Force India only really did consistently well (practice, quali, race) in low down force tracks (Spa, Monza). McLaren found huge gains in their aero and were quick at the end of the season at low to medium down force tracks.

well its a little harder to tell due to Trulli, but Brazil they did well in quali also (admittedly it was a bit of a lottery but they still got reasonable times through the mid section ) and Suzuka they did well in quali

They may not have had race pace, but for a customer team still think they had outright pace on most tracks at some point thru the weekend (and remember how close some of the grids where (excl A.D)

edit

Not sure if anyone knows about this (Ive just noticed it today), and so far I think all the gossip has been reposted but this could be a good source of stuff during the winter

Sooooo.....

Its a lot more than 48 hours since Silverstone were given the 48 hour deadline... any news? I cant find anything, not even a "48 hours is over" story...

At the Mercedes day yesterday, everyone seemed adimant (Hamilton, Heiki, Mika, Brawn, DC, etc etc) that F1 would not be the same without a british GP. Theres also a lump of money in my savings account waiting patientsly for some grandstand seats!

Probably tout it as 48 hours not including the weekend, so they have all Friday and all Monday. Dragging it out I must admit!

Ok, time to be honest people, are we expecting a British Grand Prix next year or not?

Wasn't when it was announced to be at Donnington
Now that has failed, Bernie now has the excuse he's always been after to take it elsewhere - I didn't even expect him to offer a deal to Silverstone.

So, no - and a good thing too.

Why didn't he say 2 working days then? And if the 48 hours are 'working hours' are only 8 are taken off the deadline each day or something? :D

People are taking this 48 hours too literally. I believe the quote from Bernie was "Maybe they have lost their pen but if they don't find it in the next day or two then that's it."
