*****Official 2013 BBQ Thread- it's sizzlin'!!!!*****

I want to replace my gas BBQ with a good charcoal one.

Problem being is we like it so much, we often use it 3 times a week when the weather allows. However, while it was OK with gas, I'm not so sure with charcoal.

Any advice? Should I stick with gas? It's just not as exciting.

Gas is faster and hence more convenient but charcoal is the real mans BBQ, albeit it takes longer as you need to wait for the charcoal to turn white which can take 45m to an hour

What do people think of the B&Q Kinley BBQ? http://www.diy.com/nav/garden/outdo...coal-Trolley-Barbecue-12718626?skuId=13239332

I know someone who works there who reckons it's selling by the palletload.

It's got a big hooded 54cm kettle cooking area with warming rack set in a trolley with a granite chopping board which conceals a hidden bin, easy kettle starter, utensil hooks, ash collector and even a bottle opener.

It's £129, but my mate can get me 20% discount so it's £103.

all depends if you can afford the charcoal or want to afford the charcoal.
im the same gas just doesn't seem right.
you can bulk buy, but its not exactly cheap.

a charcoal chimney will sort out the lighting time and make it easy.
I like this charcoal and its slightly cheaper to bulk, but its expensive.

its only gets three stars on their website and I don't see why you would get that over say a webber premium one touch.
http://www.riversidegardencentre.co.uk/bbq/weber-one-touch-premium-57cm.html (not sure if that's the cheapest place)

also if you slow cook, as the hood is hinged you cant rotate the air vent on the lid, to where you want it.

far more accessories and options with webber, want a cast iron grill, then that's no issue with a webber as there's lots of third party stuff available.

Hi Rob

If your keen to go down the charcoal route id highly recommend getting a Weber Chimney Starter they are pretty much essential and takes all the hassle out of charcoal barbecuing.

You'd struggle to find a better barbecue than a Weber classic kettle, go for a One Touch Premium that has an ash catching can. Also i think they have a 10 year guarantee, so its more of an investment. Best deals on here http://www.bbqs2u.co.uk/15-weber-one-touch-premium-bbqs

Hope that helps.

Mark.

that looks great

haha there is so much! I took 2 pork steaks for lunch! Still got 4 sausages, 6 chicken thighs, 4 wings, and half a massive cote de beouf! Saying that, the kids will probably have finished most of it for lunch!

That's dinner sorted for me, better fire the bbq up for your kids.

I would say yes, mainly for the thermometer built in, for slow cooking. It's the one thing I hate about my current BBQs, it's so hard to gauge, I'm sure people who gre up slow cooking on BBQs are fine, but I could really do with a thermometer built in.

The other one is an easy clean feature thing. The collector thing under the bbq for the ash.

I think that's it.

I love this channel, this looks like a good midweek recipe.

I'll change it a bit, ill leave the potatoes out, use some goat chops as I have some coming and I think parsley butter rather than mint jelly.

Re: built-in thermometer I wouldn't be too bothered about that, they are rarely very accurate and you can just spend the price difference on a proper thermometer like a ThermaPen which will be far more accurate and versatile too.

Glaucus - that's a great channel yeah, found it very useful when cooking up a few racks of ribs the other day.

Right guys, I'm clearing out my yard this year with the intention of embracing BBQ. Normally I suck at BBQ and am looking for tips!, I'll be picking up a coal BBQ as I don't fancy gas.

Has anybody got any reliable sites I can look at for good lighting & cooking tips?
