*****Official 2013 BBQ Thread- it's sizzlin'!!!!*****

Had an awesome BBQ tonight. The weather was perfect. I did beer can chicken with a lemon, thyme and pepper marinade. It was such tasty chicken!

Today we made a chipotle, soy, brown sugar, vinegar and cumin marinade (and a few other things tbh) for some chicken thighs and beef steaks. Cooked them over direct and then smoked a whole chicken (in chipotle paste). Whilst waiting for this we built a ghetto rotisserie out of an old drill and various bits of metal piping. Tomorrow we have a 5kg pig leg to cook on the rotisserie whilst we go out biking. Should be meat-tastic :)

Went to a friend's bbq, there were so many people that they kept it simple; burgers, sausages, chicken legs. It was great though. :)

Grabbed a cheap kettle from tesco last night and did burgers and sausages over charcoal. They were ok but not very smokey at all...

Going to get a chimney starter today and some wood chips to see if I can smoke some ribs low n slow before doing some chicken kebabs.

dont know how but I have ended up using some really gimpy charcoal lumpwood today. it makes so much difference to a bbq. It is just not hot. Petrol station job I think, found it in my shed.

going to get some good stuff from now onwards. like £50 quids worth of food not enjoyed :(

Can anyone recommend and decent charcoal? Stuff I got from tesco burnt really quickly so I couldn't smoke my ribs how I wanted to....

I use Big K charcoal briquettes and lumpwood and I find it burns fairly slowly. If you light from a chimney starter, light it and then lay out more coals underneath where you're going to put the lit coals. Then wait the 25 or so minutes for the coal to burn and stop smoking, and then add it over the coals that you put in earlier. You should be good for a few hours :)

Try getting some Big K or head over to a South African shop near you. There's a fantastic brand of briquettes but I'm not sure what it's called.

Also, do a minion method. They'll last far longer.

This should do, only 5 people confirmed so far lol.

Jus got home and this waiting for me. Turned out well, still need to go get other stuff including charcoal really don't want to, only have the motorbike and I just spent over 5 hours on it and am sore anyway.
