Interesting discussion above. I agree, F1 seems to be in a constant state of conflict against itself being the pinnacle of motorsport vs being sustainable and green vs an entertainment business. F1 was historically about being the absolute best, fastest, advanced technologically and with no expense spared. It still is ultra competitive but the walls in which it operates have changed so much. Stricter everything, even in terms of out and out wheel to wheel combat with the penalties.
The thing is, we can have incredible seasons. 2021 for example was arguably one of the best ever going to the wire, the drama. If we unpack why that was, there were a lot of things during that season which were unique in terms of the rivalry and controversies adding to the atmosphere, but ultimately the key ingredient there was that we had two contenders which were closely matched in ability and machinery which went to the final few points of the final race. The reason for that was because it was towards the end of a regulation period where Redbull were able to catch up with Merc in terms of development of that platform. I think we will in time see the same with the current regs, but I think it will take until the end of next season until we see someone match Max. The 2025 season could be the next super season. The question is, will it be Lewis vs Max again or someone else vs Max?
This weekend I fancy myself a Perez win. I bet you'd get good odds on that!
