Interesting discussion above. I agree, F1 seems to be in a constant state of conflict against itself being the pinnacle of motorsport vs being sustainable and green vs an entertainment business. F1 was historically about being the absolute best, fastest, advanced technologically and with no expense spared. It still is ultra competitive but the walls in which it operates have changed so much. Stricter everything, even in terms of out and out wheel to wheel combat with the penalties.

The thing is, we can have incredible seasons. 2021 for example was arguably one of the best ever going to the wire, the drama. If we unpack why that was, there were a lot of things during that season which were unique in terms of the rivalry and controversies adding to the atmosphere, but ultimately the key ingredient there was that we had two contenders which were closely matched in ability and machinery which went to the final few points of the final race. The reason for that was because it was towards the end of a regulation period where Redbull were able to catch up with Merc in terms of development of that platform. I think we will in time see the same with the current regs, but I think it will take until the end of next season until we see someone match Max. The 2025 season could be the next super season. The question is, will it be Lewis vs Max again or someone else vs Max?

This weekend I fancy myself a Perez win. I bet you'd get good odds on that!

I was actually going to post the same thing. Hamilton is due some bad luck, obviously so is Max. If the others like Russell don’t perform then it’d be quite easy for Perez to have a “good day” and be at the front, especially with their new sandwiches- I mean upgrade package.

My worry for Perez is that he's had a rough time in quali recently anyway, let alone with the changes they've made to the tyre compound requirements for Q1, Q2 and Q3 for this race. I can just see him going out in Q1/Q2 again and then ending up 6th and calling it a 'great comeback drive'.

Should be a Max win - then I think this weekend we'll see the Ferraris/Alonso competing for the podium places rather than the Mercs & McLarens.

Checo deffo under massive pressure - a tough place to be, only the strongest drivers can pull this around.

I wonder how much longer he's realistically got. I'm not expecting a mid-season change but, at some point, Red Bull are going to have to start thinking about his replacement and agreeing contracts with drivers. Especially if, as rumoured, they're planning on going after Norris.

Since he did the Bottas special of winning like 1 GP and talking himself up as a WDC contender he has also done the Bottas special of being absolutely nowhere since!

To not have finished in the top 2 at the last 5 Grand Prixs in a car which is miles ahead of the rest is shocking really and he can have no complaints if the axe comes.

Lets be honest, if Perez has a crap race here and another at Spa next weekend and Ricciardo looks decent - Perez is probably for either the chop or the swap before we come back to Zandvoort in late August.
If not then for 2024.

I don't expect Red Bull to sign a "proper" replacement until 2025 - isn't Lando's contract to the end of 2025?
