****Official 6850/6870 Reviews thread****

More like nvidia reacted by dropping their price when they got wind of the performance.

AMD reacted to NVIDIA too, it was only this morning when AMD gave us new lower pricing to launch with. So the consumer has won all round. :)

What was the orignal scheduled price of the 6970?

Circa £219.99 for the cheapest ones.

Now its £199.99 and I suspect once all has calmed we may see circa £189.99 unless exchange rates weaken which could happen or of course AMD have amazing sales, sell out and lack of supply forces prices back up.

Needless to say the price is pretty decent on launch, will just be interesting to see if AMD maintain this pricing of they issue a price increase as per 58xx launch.

Yeah there you go, more here, Apologies accepted. :D

The point is that NV reacted first.
So you can thank ATI for coming in at an original price point that made NV lower there price in the first place or there would be no price drop on any side if NV did not initially feel the pressure.
So if ATI came in higher then there would be no pressure on NV to lower its price.

Tbh, if a 6870 is very close to a 5870... then a 6970 will tottaly blow it out the water, along with the 480GTX and any new Nvidia card (if they can actually pull one out there arse thats not made of wood)

and the 6990 will be even faster if the scailing of the 6870 is anything to go on.

Sorry raven... but AMD just won this round crazy style

I'm pretty sure if they named the card 6770 and tried to sell it for £200 whilst well received 460 1GB would be selling for £150, we would not only see a drop in prices but possible a market crash for AMD :)

Thinking about it your probably correct. But it just feels a bit weird them releasing a 6870 which is slower in most titles than the 5870. Maybe if they released them as 6830 and 6850 respectively it would be more suited to their performance.

I know if your spending 200 odd quid on a card your would be naive to not look at reviews beforehand, but this will happen to a lot of non enthusiasts who take graphics cards a bit to seriously.

The thing is AMD chopped off like 400 million transistors and got pretty much equal performance, using a lot less power and generating less heat. I'd love to see Nvidia pull that off with Fermi.

All I want now is ATI to bring out the high end products to force down the 480 price so I can go tri sli :D

They are offering 5870 performance, with new features, better AF quality, a new type of AA and the ability to turn off all the optimisations for £100 less. Who cares what it's called?

Exactly the way I see it, and best part of all theres gonna be some serious price wars which is what we been missing lately, no one wanna spend £300-400 on gpus in todays recessions !
these cards are a lot cheaper, smaller, require less power, generate less noise and similar to a 5870 people will buy them like chocolate chip muffins :o
