I'm strongly thinking of getting a 1440p or maybe even a 1600p monitor. I've got a 4770K @ 4.5GHz powering 2 HIS 7950 @ 1100/1400, I'm assuming this is plenty of power for 1440p but what about 1600p? From reading about it looks like you need some serious power or be willing to dial down the settings. I've been gaming on a 40" Samsung LED TV but fancy changing down to a 27"/30" monitor for higher image quality.

You're meant to leave v sync on for Skyrim man, messes with the games physics otherwise

+1

It turns into Skyrim Acid House Edition at times with vsync off.:D

I just flashed my second GPU as it is an Ice-Q Boost and I currently have a MSI non boost 7950 in the first slot.
I am curious if I should do Tommy's Power Limit Hack for the MSI Card as I am only able to set the Limit to +20% and the Ice-Q I am able to do +50%.

I have already mentioned this in another thread but thought it would be good in here as if anyone else is in the same position they will be able to see it.

Tom

Since you know what you are doing with bios flashing, I have just updated the guide on the Power Limit thread with showing how to Bios Mod your own bios with the +50%:

I'm testing some new custom HIS 7950 Ice-Q bios for Kaboom. Once ive finished i will share the delights. So far the main change is actually increasing the cards TDP limit. So you can run large overclocks without needing to increase the power limit. For example currently im running 1100/1500 with 0% power limit and ULPS enabled with no ill side effects. Also tested different voltages at stock on the vram side.

More to follow later...

Just put my IceQ in this evening Matt, flashing went to plan no problems what so ever. Went straight to 1050/1350 without altering volts. added +20 power and ran a few benches of Valley and firestrike. Everything went fine, no random boots or artifacts. Slowly started uping the clocks, starting with the core best I can get is 1175 @1.2v temps stay at 52oC running fans locked at 60% (that's where I like it max for the db's :)

Memory gets me to 1500 at default volts no sweat, not even bothering to look higher, I'm very happy there. I'm now running both GPUS at 1125/1500 temps no higher than 63oC I'm ecstatic. @)

Looks like you have a great card there mate. Jealous. Enjoy. :)

Thank you for all your help and advice Matt, its really appreciated. I think my misses is getting annoyed now at all my testing in the lounge so will run some proper benches Xfired tomorrow evening.

Jealous?? you run your 7950s at 1100/1500 don't you? only difference is you have an I7 I think..now that's something im jealous of hehe

Ugh, seems my latest problem has returned!

I get artefacts and 'AMD driver stopped responding and has recovered' message again.

The only changes have been re-seating the motherboard because it was shorting and failing to boot. So I tested as many settings as I could, I found Burnout Party didn't have a problem but both Tomb Raider and Heaven 4.0 would crash within seconds with artefacts.

I notice that no matter what the settings in His iTurbo, it reports that the VDDC has returned to 1175Mv after the crash.

I am very confused, as this was working in all games plus Heaven last night no problems, after disabling the iGPU HD4000 in the BIOS (which I checked is still disabled).

EDIT: Oh, Burnout does crash though it player a bit earlier for about three minutes before I quit. Something is wrong, very wrong! :(

I tested with another PSU just incase and the system will still crash but this time completely so I'm going to set up an RMA which I'm not looking forward to.

Hmmmmm, u got me interested, has he just increased the TDP limits in VBE7 or is this some new trickery I should know of?

I see you put the Heisenberg hat back on.....:D

@Jarrastafari,

Have you got the latest MB bios on your board?

Have you done a complete driver uninstall/driver sweep/AB complete uninstall inc preferences deletion?

If you don't sweep all of the above, it can cause havok with your stability, I have had your symptoms in the past and I'm 99% sure it was some kind of hardware/software conflict as everything is fine, if you can, get that card into another rig to rule out anything on your end.

Keep everything at stock if you do a clean sweep including cpu etc.

got my very first Crossfire bench Matt, feels a little low but I'm sure I have lots to work on hehe. Ran Heaven and managed a score of

Any good for a reference bench? looks a little low than some of the Xfire 7950s on the Heaven leaderboard, but I imagine that's down to my I5 correct? any tips? these were done with 1100/1500

If you want to compare results Tony, i posted some Unigine Valley and 3DMark Firestrike scores at stock (925/1250) and overclocked (1125/1600) in my last benchmark thread. Unfortunately i don't have any Heaven benches to compare to currently.

Yea, it was suggested earlier so I made sure I had it updated.

Yea I used the official AMD tool but the operating system itself was a fresh install and it's not worked properly even when reinstalling windows too.

That's what I had hoped but...
...get that card into another rig to rule out anything on your end.
...I put it back into the system it came from and it was giving the same error. :(

I decided not to overclock until everything was installed, updated and running fine but that hasn't happened. It was suggested that I apply slight clock changes to get the card stable, including underclocking, though nothing seemed to resolved the issue until I disabled the HD 4000 iGPU; but that fix failed after one evening of playing.

I have setup the RMA anyway so if it is my fault hopefully they'll be able to find it. Thanks for all your advice guys.
