Flashed to the bios suggested by Matt earlier.

Everything appears to be fine but is the fan speed meant to be doing this while idle?

Edit: Ignore, I'm a tired idiot

Hey guys,
sorry but I'm ripping my hair out at the minute over this card. Any idea's would b appreciated.

I have upgraded my mobo, RAM, cpu, psu and HDD; i5 3670K, 8GB Patriot 1600HMz, Samsung 840 EVO 256GB, Corsair CX750 PSU and Gigabyte H87-HD3. Setting this up on a fresh copy of Windows 7 I find that I cannot get any game to play for mor than a few seconds before it artefacts and crashes. I can CTRL+ALT+DEL and kill the application and sometimes it will state that the display driver stopped responding but has recovered.

I have tried:

  • Changing the clock speed to default values;
  • Using the backup BIOS on switch number 2;
  • Flashing the BIOS on switch 1 from the old Matt.rom (1000/1400) to use the latest Matt.rom (stock @ .90 idle) from the first page of the thread;
  • Installed the latest 13.10 beta 2 version of the AMD driver;
  • Installed 13.9 after using the AMD driver removal tool from the website;
...though the same problem still occurs.

This is a shame because I was running this card fine before at 1250 core, 1600 memory and 1.175V, without touching the powerlimit+%.

Thanks, Dan.

DAn if you're overclocking the power limit should be at +20% if you're using a flashed bios or 30%= if you're using the stock bios. If you have the power limit at 0% you'll have problems.

EDIT

Also guys i found that all the bios in the OP broke sleep for me. Sometimes the computer does not wake from sleep. However the 0.950mv bios appears to fix this issue. So if you have that problem, you know which one to use.

Matt, when I finally pop in my 2nd 7950 (its still in its box as I'm awaiting something else ;) ) when flashing is it advisable to take out my Gigabyte WF3?

You don't have to if you follow the guide correctly and flash the bios to the right card using the numbers 0,1 etc. 0 will flash the gpu in the first pci-e slot. 1 will flash the gpu in the second pci-e slot etc. If you want to be safe you can remove the WF. But if you know what you're doing then theres no need.

Anyone else having some slight issues with BF4?

I've got it running LtMatt BIOS (lower stock volts) and I'm running both cards @ 1100/1400 + 25% but BF4 has recently started artifacting. Far Cry 3, Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 have all played fine without issues. Is this a case of BF4 pushing my cards to new limits and exposing an instability or just the fact BF4 is in beta?

What type of artifacts and what gpu temp are you seeing when these artifacts occur?

Black squares popping up, not multicoloured artifacts. Also screen was flickering, I'll try to grab a video. The temps for both cards are mid 60s.

Sounds like core artifacts. Try lowering the memory to stock and leave the core as it is. Make sure temps stay below 70c if you can. Do the artifacts still appear? If they do one or more of your cards core's is not 100% happy at that clock. I find one of my cards starts to artifact at 1125 if i let temps get over 73c.

I will say thought ive seen artifacts in BF4 even at stock clocks. So could be a game issue. Every now and then a texture far off will flicker a bit.

Ok, I gave in and followed LTMatt's guide and flashed the matt.rom, so no more boost, Using Afterburner, set my core to 1100, mem at 1400 +20 and tested, all ok, started upping to core but found Tomb Raider would not load properly, main screen hangs and driver restarts, so after following LTMatt's OC guide, I now have core @ 1190, mem @ 1500, +20 and Core Voltage is at 1225, whats the max safe volts you can put on these as would love to get to 1200 stable but dont wont to fry it, max temp under load is around 60?

EDIT, COD 2 crashed at 1190... with volts set to 1225? looks like I have a bad clocker?
Tried volts back at default 1175 and ran tomb Raider fine with core at 1150... but COD 2 still crashed.. and I swear, before I flashed the bios, COD 2 was getting over 200FPS, now with same settings its 150fps or less?

Hmm yes ive not seen that in mine. Does it happen in other games? If not id put it down to a beta bug.
I've not seen it happen in other games. Having said that I've not seen my 4770K pushed so hard in other games so guessed BF4 was just highlighting OC instability in my 7950s. I'll ignore it for now and hope it's fixed in the final version.

Just installed the 2nd card and flashed it to the bios in post #2.
BF4 Beta was fine with the odd lag.
Fired up Skyrim and getting really bad screen tear, fps goes up to 120 :p

...Have you updated your motherboard BIOS to the latest version, or tried the card in a second system?

I tried both of these as suggested but in the end I found that - installing the driver for and then disabling in the BIOS - the HD 4000 iGPU which I forgot about. This resolved the problem with the card crashing in 3D applications.

Thanks for the help but I'm so glad I didn't have to RMA the item.

Thanks again for the advice Matt, AMD need to hire you, heh ^_^; and thanks for the heads up. :)

Hi folks, just bought one of these. Performance is great but I see lots of utilization dips from 100% to 10-20% for no apparent reason. Happens at stock and oc clocks. Fps remain stable during these. Is it an issue with how afterburner reports this? Is it fixable without a new bios?

You're meant to leave v sync on for Skyrim man, messes with the games physics otherwise

I just flashed my second GPU as it is an Ice-Q Boost and I currently have a MSI non boost 7950 in the first slot.
I am curious if I should do Tommy's Power Limit Hack for the MSI Card as I am only able to set the Limit to +20% and the Ice-Q I am able to do +50%.

I have already mentioned this in another thread but thought it would be good in here as if anyone else is in the same position they will be able to see it.
