Right so crossfire was way to go, then i7 as 3570k will bottleneck, now i7 but I also need to overclock it to not drop below 60 even though neither that or the graphics card are maxed?

I sorted it myself somehow by changing a couple of things in CCC, I changed v-sync from Application Control to Always Off in a profile I created for BF3 which also had Morphological Filtering enabled and enhance with Supersampling. Whatever that did 70-90% GPU usage and dropped into the 70 fps sometimes but mainly hovering around the 100's and it looked fantastic. I think the main change was vsync to always off as before even if FPS was high there was a fair bit of bad screen tearing (playing through 46" LED) which seems to have almost vanished since setting to always off.

Just did a final round of testing to make sure my RMA will be legit, card is borked.

Solo, no post on boot.
Crossfire as master, no post on boot.
Crossfire as slave, boots fine, but as soon as I enable crossfire I get BSOD.

This is with the bios switch in either position.

TF3 is running perfectly on it's own.

:(

Just got mine.

Up to 1100/1300 no problems, but AB does not seem to be able to set the voltages?

Unless you flash the first bios listed in the OP then afterburner voltage control will not work with HIS Ice-Q cards. You'll need to use His iTurbo which is also linked in the OP.

RMA time then. :(

LtMatt,

How does flashing the BIOS on the card allow afterburner to set the voltages?

I'm tempted to just modify my current cards BIOS, add the EFI to it (Mac Pro boot screens!) and be done with it.

What benefit does removing the boost clocks have?

Currently my card is doing 1125/1500 no problems with default voltage (1.25v!)

ASIC quality is 59.2% apparently...

Not sure but it allows voltage control to work with more apps then just His Tool. The benefits of flashing the bios are massive and can be read in the OP, which you should check out. The card will be throttling at your clocks, even with +20% power limit. To see if its throttling setup a gpu overlay using afterburner as in this thread here. Pay attention to the core clock while under heavy 3d load with the gpu at 99% usage. The core clock should drop.

After unsuccessfully trying several different BIOS ROMs from different sources thwe ones from the OP did the trick and my card now overclocks like a champ. Glad to see the back of the pointless Boost feature!

I just wanted to know if anyone has had any trouble with the HDMI port on their card? Since flashing it no longer works for me, though I can't remember if it worked before I flashed it or not, I don't think I ever used it. I was hoping to plug my PC into the TV while the wife's away but all I get is green garbage followed by a 'no signal'. Monitor is the same.

Make sure you use this bios from the OP. That may or may not fix the HDMI issue.

New bios for testing:

925/1250MHz Non Boost 1.175v -INCREASED TDP FROM 130W TO 173W-CrossFire users-ulps can now remain enabled with no performance loss!!!

This is a new bios that Matt and myself have been testing, further feedback welcome-especially if you are running CrossFire.

Matt's found you can overclock further before you need the power limit.

My own testing has achieved slightly lower voltage for my 24/7 clocks:

Before-1100/[email protected] +30% Power Limit

Using this bios-1100/[email protected] no Power Limit adjustment required.

I have my card clocked up to 1100/1400 with a +20% power limit and it dosent seem to be throttling when i stress the card and my temps are fine.

I tried the bios in the OP's post but i have issues with the system afterwards. Keep getting slight hangs and errors with the drivers for the card even at the stock bios clocks.

Is it worth me messing around or just keeping it as it is?

Any ideas?

I've done the software mod to +35%, so I don't have that problem anymore.

I've read the OP a few times but i can't see a clear pros or cons list?

1125/1500 seems to be OK. 1150 gives up so I think I might need a few more V on the core.

Can I just modify my own BIOS TO:

1. Lower 2D clock voltages.
2. Lower The next level clocks and voltages (2D performance?)
3. Adjust the normal and boost clocks to 1000/1300 and lower the voltage a tad.
4. Lower fan speed to 20% below 50C.
5. Raise TDP limit to 175W and leave power % at 20 - enables OS X to not throttle!
5. Add EFI.

I'm guessing the fact your bios isn't based on the HIS firmware hence the ability to adjust the voltages in other apps?

I don't really understand the point of adjusting the boost clock to match the normal clock speed, is this still to do with the power limits? Surely just adjusting the power limit would solve this without having to modify the clocks?

It used to be simpler back with the X1900 series!!!!

Thanks, though I'm not sure which ROM you mean. Currently I'm using: 925MHz/1250MHz Non Boost 1.175v(0.850mv idle voltage version)

And thanks for all your good work, I was really struggling to get the best out of my card before I found this thread!

Hi,
I bought a HIS 7950 iceq boost 3gb recently.
I am about to upgrade my system to this with HIS 7950 iceq boost 3gb and PSU to Corsair pro series HX 850 "80 gold.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-374-OE

I was going to addthe card to this HIS i already have so I can go Xfire,
The extra cost of adding these into the system is approx £140

I dont really want to get involved with oveerclocking, I think I am to stupid :o (maybe I could learn later on )

Questions are, will this be a plug and play when I recieve new system?

Also would this be a good move, or should I be looking at a more recent card, since prices seem to be tumbling for the high end R290/780 series.

Hope you can advise

Barry

I have got the perfect bios for my cards now, both my cards are 83% and 82% ASIC ;)
and bios is optimized :

1125
1425
Boost Disabled
0.800mv idle voltages.
Optimized fan speed for 100% if it goes over 80 in steps ;)
added GOP to my bios for UEFI motherboards and secure boot ;)
bios 3d Clocks voltage : 1.138v
Raise TDP limit / no need to use powerlimit anymore cards do not throttle..
----------------------------------------

working fine all i use msi afterburner for now is monitoring ;)

Has anyone had issues with the HDMI ports on the cards. My DVI port works fine but the HDMI I get nothing on the screen, pc boots fine though as I can hear it all in the background.

I have flashed the bios to the recommended one but the HDMI doesn't work on the old or new bios. Weird as its the same on both cards.

Ive got the same issue. no display from the HDMI port at all.

Still need to try it on the other screen i have to see if its an issue with the monitor or not.

OK, quick question, what is the EFI stuff?

My RIVE motherboard wont boot with these cards in with the PCI OROM set to EFI but works if it's set to Legacy (I've not tried it since flashing, or did I, I can't remember).

Seemed to work fine on my Z87X-OC motherboard in using EFI PCI OROM though

the reason you have HDMI issues guys is cause the bios your flashing is modded from a non HIS official bios.
only way to get HDMI working is using a official his bios modified variety.. and trust me i have previous experiance on this issue, when i used previously a gigabyte 7970 bios, when used HDMI was useless, in my ever ending quest to find a working bios that would work with afterburner i found it ;) but then i modded my own official bios as back then there where no tools to modify your official bios`s.
