OK, I've just installed 2 of these cards.
Heaven score is lower than I'd like, but I'm wondering if you guys can help me with this problem and another I've been having...

First off, I'm using Precision X (as it was already installed).
When I've got no apps open the 2nd card seems to power down and doesn't show any voltage or gpu speed. However as soon as I open any app the second card kicks in and runs flat out 99% usage. It's really annoying, any way around this?

Secondly, when running Heaven the first card hovers around 99% usage but the second card keeps dropping to 64% usage and then spikes up to 99% and then drops back down. Any idea how to fix this, the power target thing is already at +20%.
Also, is it normal that Heaven only shows the stats for 1 card with Crossfire? (it showed 2 with SLI).

Thanks.

1. Real men don't use precision X.

2. Disable ULPS via afterburner.

3. Flash the first non boost bios from the OP.

4. Use the bios flashing guide LT posted in the OP or in the second post in this thread.

Report back if needed. :)

Is the BIOs flashing needed?
I was planning to do it, but was gonna wait until I add the 3rd card in there.

You can live without it. But to remove long term throttling you either need to bios flash or extend the power limit (over +20%, ideally 30-35%) unless you run at stock. Bios flashing is as easy as urinting from your penis if you follow my guide. You should definitely disable ULPS though, that way you can monitor the second cards temps etc. :)

Details are in the OP of your options. :)

Currently just running at stock.
Precision X doesn't seem to have an option for ULPS, but it does allow me to see both temps.

Any idea about how to stop the second card hitting 99% usage as soon as anything (e.g. Firefox) is opened? It runs really hot and the fan is noisey and all I'm doing is looking at these forums.

Yes you need to listen to my advice above. ;)

Well, I've now done the card in the machine in my sig.
All seemed to work ok, slightly improved my Heaven score too. Not running any cooler though.
Used the 850mv BIOS. The 800mv one sorta grey screened when I ran Heaven.

You should use this bios. The one you picked is an old version. Try this one, its the latest and greatest. Has a higher TDP limit. :)

925/1250MHz Non Boost 1.175v -INCREASED TDP FROM 130W TO 173W-CrossFire users-ulps can now remain enabled with no performance loss!!!

This is a new bios that Matt and myself have been testing, further feedback welcome-especially if you are running CrossFire.

Matt's found you can overclock further before you need the power limit.

My own testing has achieved slightly lower voltage for my 24/7 clocks:

Before-1100/[email protected] +30% Power Limit

Using this bios-1100/[email protected] no Power Limit adjustment required.

Surely a higher TDP is bad as it'll run hotter?
I've not tried OCing yet as the cards seem to run hot enough as it is (unless you want the fan screaming at you).

On a slight side-note, I couldn't see an option in Afterburner for enabling or disabling ULPS. Is it only available in the BETA version? (I tend to avoid BETAs).

Also, GPU-z tells me that a low ASIC Quality is good for OCing on water. Why is this? makes no sense to me, surely there's nothing so different about water to air that would make this the case?
If it is, I've got a card that will do so so so well under water! Has anyone seen a lower ASIC than 52%?

That was copied from the OP, written by Tommy.

Higher TDP means it won't throttle. Its a good thing.

Yes you need the latest version of afterburner beta, 16.

Low asic cards need more voltage than high asic cards. Low asic cards respond better to more voltage. All boost cards are low asic. Yours are pretty low, but ive seen lower. All HIS boost cards are 50-70% in asic.

I guess that makes sense.
Still not totally convinced about the ASIC thing, but I definitely don't know any better.
My other 2 HIS boost cards are around 63% ASIC.

I disabled my ULPS by editing the registry, seems to have worked. I tick box woulda been nicer though.
Any issues with the Afterburner BETA that's stopping it being released as the new official version?

With this new BIOS does it change the voltage as lower clocks (as there seemed to be 3 BIOSs that specified the voltage at low clocks)?
ULPS doesn't affect performance now, but will it still cause the 2nd card to have 99% activity when Firefox is opened?

No afterburner beta is fine and stable and updated regularly. Disable ULPS is available as a tick box option in the beta of afterburner.

The bios uses 0.850mv as idle which works fine. 0.800mv is too low and the other one 0.950mv is too high.

Not sure about that test it and find out.

I've had my 7950's installed with my 4770k at stock for a few days now and max BF3 at 1080p (post processing disabled as looks horrible) and avg around 80-90 fps on a 64 player server but still see the odd drop into the 50's for a second or two, worse is sometimes it seems to fluctuate from say 120 down to 70 which gives a bit of a judder.

I am using 13.11 v6, latest MSI afterburner, recommended BIOS, cards at 1100, 1300, +20% power, 1.225v, UPLS disabled and all settings match the overclocking in afterburner thread. Its a brand new Win 7 install as well. The game is not unplayable in any way but was hoping a 4770k would get rid of these low min drops. GPU usage varies from 50%-80% occasionally spiking into the 90's. CPU cores hover 80%-40% never getting maxed and this is at stock.

Anything I could be doing wrong? I tried vsync on but it makes the mouse sens feel awful and sluggish.
