I had a similar problem with my X79 board. Turned out I had the PCI OROM set to EFI. I set it to Legacy and it worked.
Oddly the same card seemed to work fine in my Z87 board withthe PCI OROM set to EFI, so don't know why it made a difference.
Also not sure why it would then work in the 4x slot.

I've seen that mentioned elsewhere today, I'll give it a go when I'm home tonight!

Since flashing i havent really played any graphics intensive games till last night, Decided to play some BF3 and i slowly increased the settings from medium to high then to ultra, No problem at all.

Then i turned up all the options to the max expecting issues...nothing at all, works perfectly fine at a constant FPS of 35-60 and the lowest i have seen was 24 at 1920x1080

Such a good buy and well worth the bios flash

Good to hear. Which bios did you use, the new one?

Setting Legacy and PCI GEN 2 got it working but I've lost my onboard lan somehow. Oh well..

These are the results of my over clocking adventures.

As you can see, I get increasing performance at 1125 mhz core all the way up to 1500mhz memory! Anything over that seems to be stable but lowering the timings, hence the reduction in performance.

1140 is the highest my core can go on stock V, I might be able to eek 1150 out of it with a higher fan speed. Currently hitting 70-73C at 65-70%.

Also note the small increase across the board from PCI-E x16 V1 to x16 V2.

Hey all, thought I would register to give feedback on my HIS 7950's.

LTMatt I've been using your latest BIOS and its great, though I have tweaked the fan profile to max out at 50% for daily usage however. Interestingly the power limit still seems to have an effect, though only in some applications ? I leave it at +20% just in case.

My 24/7 clocks are 1100C/1500M with the 'stock' 1175mV.

I did a mammoth benchmarking session last night and have some sweet results! After a few kamikaze runs I managed a 3DMark result with 1235 MHz on the core! I was quite impressed with this, though using 1300mV makes it a no go for 24/7 usage.

My ghetto benchmark setup, thats a 110CFM fan on the CPU :P

3DMark Fire Strike result:

That result puts me at 96th place for CF 7950s, and 2nd place for 7950's + i5-3570k. (My weak ass 3570k would only do 4.6 @ 1.4V's  ) My ghetto cooling worked though, cards maxed out at 70c :D

PS: I changed out the TIM on both cards to AS5 and saw a 6-8c drop on the one card and a 4c drop on the other. May be worth doing for overclockers and quiet freaks :P

PPS: If anyone is experiencing weird results in the latest 3DMark (Fire Strike) in Windows 7, be sure uninstall the DX11.1 Windows update (Kb2670838) as it causes issues. I was only managing ~8k before removing it.

Hmmm, rather disturbing things are happening. Just playing Sleeping Dogs and I started to get small squares of corrupt graphics all around the screen. I alt-tabbed to windows and checked Afterburner which showed max temp of 92c and 82% fan where it usually peeks at 70c and about 55% fan.

I have quit the game and I am going to try the card with factory bios and stock clocks to see if it re-occurs. I also opened the side of the case to check the fans are running and the HIS sticker on the shroud is peeling off :o.

What clocks and voltage settings was this using?

Its normal for the sticker to peel off, it happened to both of my cards. Those temps are not normal though, far from it.

1100 core 1400 memory. Voltage was at 1225 as Crysis 2 was crashing with anything less. Temps were worrying but glad to hear sticker peeling isn't unusual.

I reinstalled the drivers and AB and reset to default bios and tried Heaven and Sleeping Dogs at stock. No artifacting and temps maxed out at 60 with 55% fan. I will have give it a longer run later and maybe see how is if I increase the clocks to 1000/1300.

Whats the safest amount of volts to put through these cards?

I going to run the Tomb Raider benchmark and as it is short i might crank it up beyond usual BF4 stable clocks and see if i can get away with it.

Actually managed 1180/1600 last night at 1.25v (standard boost clock volts).

Up to 1.3v is fine but if you want to play it safe stick at 1.25v which is default voltage. The problem you will have is keeping the card cool enough above stock voltage. However you can easily lower the voltage on these cards by using a bios from the OP and still overclock really well.

I have been running my card on the stock bios for a couple of days and the problem has re-occured twice but each time I found the issue. For some reason, that I am at a loss to understand, the Auto Fan button in AB turns off so the fans drop to 30% and temperatures shoot up.

I didn't spot it the first time as I looked at the max readings after quitting the game but this time I had the OSD options set. I had re-installed AB between each occurance and setup all the options again, so really not sure why it is happening but not constantly .

At least I can rule out bios issues, as it happened with both the HIS stock and the modified one.

Just register for this thread and to say thanks.
LtMatt bro really wanna thank you, the fps got an incredible boost.

im using the .850v bios, cos the "newone" does´nt work well for me, i just made 1 change (the 0.850v) and was the tdp, i took it to 220w , i can use 1200@1700 hitting 73 ºC max with 1281mv and power limit 10%, also i can take it to 1230@1700 with 1294mv +25% power limit and hit only 74 ºc, but dont really need this for 1080p

My 24/7 are 1180@1500 with stock voltages (1250mv +10% PL core -1600mv mems)
some bench´s with 1230@1700

So happy with this card, hope to get another one for crossfire, but first need to upgrade my processor :(

Nice results protoo, and I agree - a CPU upgrade is needed to fully benefit from these cards. I've noticed 3dMark Fire Strike is very CPU limited (my 2 7950s scored double my 3570 @ 4.6)
