**Official ABIT IP-35 Pro Review/Overclock/Guide Thread**

Good work posting the latest BIOS/Drivers in the thread guys. I updated my board to 14 lastnight, installed the latest Intel chipset drivers & RAID drivers.

Not sure if it was the new BIOS that fixed my problem reading temps in uGuru but they are now showing up where before there was nothing.

I came across an odd problem last night, I plugged in a Creative MP3 player and a corsair USB memory stick before I powered on the pc and it refused to post! Had to plug them out before it would boot up...

New to this mobo - general Q's

Hi

Just got this mobo. Some questions if I may:

1) My PSU has a 24 pin and a 4 pin connector. The 24 pin nicely fills all the holes. The 4 pin leaves 4 holes empty. The manual says this is ok, but recommends 8 pins to 'meet the 240VA protection limits'. What does that mean exactly, and is there any problem me just leaving the 4 pin in?

2) Another power question: Do I need to connect the 12V auxilary?

3) I have a Tagan modular 580W - will that be sufficient for a single HD, optical drive, and a single 2900 pro? What if I add 2 or 3 drives?

4) I have got my first SATA optical drive (as supposed to IDE). I have plugged in the HD into Sata 1, and the optical drive to sata 2. Is that ok? What happens if I want to add say 2 or 3 drives in raid? Would it be ok do add them to 3, 4, & 5, and just raid those 3 together, while keeping the single boot HD and optical drive on 1 & 2?

5) Another SATA q - why, on boot up, does it list the sata ports in the order 1,4,2,5,3,6 ? (rather than just 1,2,3,4,5,6)

6) What's the recommended BIOS version? Just the latest?

7) Any tips or gotchas I should be aware of?

Thanks

Marcos

what voltages are you guys changing and to what values to be able to get a higher fsb overclock. ive increased mch by +0.08v, can only get 470fsb with my e6400, increased cpu and ram volts obviously, havent changed any others other than the mch a little bit. what should i change, im using stock cooling on the board. also, if i put some mx-2 thermalpaste on under the heatpipes will that reduce the temp a lot?

thanks guys.

1. the missing 4pin you need comes on some new psu's like atx 2.2 psu's e.g corsair 520w. you dont NEED the 8pin, but its more stable with 1 of those than just a single 4pin.
2. dont think so, think the molex on the board is for crossfire ppl.
3. 580w is fine.
4. its fine using optical on sata aswell as drives, you choose which ones you want to raid.
5. ignore boot order, you can change drive boot order in bios.
6. latest
7. not really.

Thanks clocka

All sounds fine - except your answer to number 1 - if it is more stable with 8 pins, that must mean it's *less* stable with 4 pins. The question is, how much less stable?? I am worried now :)

Oh, and by the way, do you really have a 750 GB raptor? :)

yes, its more stable with an 8 pin connector or 2*4pin connectors. you can prob buy a 2*molex > 4pin connector if u want.

the 750gb is by western digital, its not a raptor tho. about as fast as it tho:)

So I'm trying to setup RAID, but when the RAID splash screen comes up it says

"ahci bios not installed"

if I try and boot into Vista I get a BSOD and reboot.

Also I don't seem to be able to install Intel® Matrix Storage Manager under Vista?

Hi
Not sure if I am posting in the right place but hope someone can help.
Just installed Vista 64 (Impressed too) using dual boot to XP. Problem is that my USB keyboard is not reconised at the dual boot menu. If I use a normal keyboard (purple connector) everthing is OK. Is there some Bios setting to rectify this?

Problem solved! - Uninstalled XP:D

Hi,

I have a problem with my newly purchased IP35 PRO and my RAID 5 setup. I also have a SATA DVD drive which I want to boot from, but it doesn't detect it. The only things that I have changed in the BIOS is Integrated Peripherials > Onboard SATA Device to RAID so that I can set the hard drives up.

Please don't flame me, It's my first personal build and the first overall build in over 2 years. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you scrolled right down through the boot devices screen?
You may find your ODD near the bottom identified by actual device/model name rather than just a generic "cdrom" or dvdrom" entry.

I've now got it to work. Typical, after an age of trying I find the answer, I post up then find it. I changed the PCI configuration to have AHCI instead of IDE.

Installed Vista now and it's all working fine. Well pleased!

Any of you guys have any problems with uguru?
It works ok for monitoring and testing out overclocks but everytime i try and move to a new mode like silent or user1 it just hangs my system?
In fact any kind of attempt to run my overclocked system back at stock or underclock it in any way using uguru causes it to hang?

I am, it isn't reporting the cpu temps correctly since I went to Bios 14. I tried the 16Beta bios last night but still the same. I'm going to go back to 12, or maybe 11, tonight to see if it fixes it.

I had another problem with 12 that it wasn't reporting temps at all on resume from standby, but I can work around that one.

It's a poor flaw in an otherwise great board.

I just had a brainwave!!! I switched my cpu fan to the sys fan header because it is only 3-pin and the sys fan header can control 3-pin but the cpu header cannot. I wonder if this is the cause, I would have done the bios update at around the same time so I blamed that for the error... I'll switch back before I change the bios again...

Will update on progress tomorrow (maybe tonight).
