**Official** Aion RELEASE Thread

Mainly asking people who used the head start here as they should be at the slightly higher levels now if they have been playing much.

What is the general impression of the game that you have?

I pre-ordered, had access to the head start (after taking part in 2 of the Beta weekends) but to be honest after really sitting down and playing the game it has really failed to grab my attention.

It doesnt help that I have recently cross faction transferred on WoW to play with a good friend which has gotten me back in to the game a little but I just found Aion quite uninspiring. Main disapointment was the graphics, they were really talked about but I found that they are actually quite average. Characters and other important features are well done but everything else is generally quite shoddy (this is running the game on top spec) whilst WoW graphics are basic they use what they have and implement it well, I found the implementation of much better (potential) graphic quality in Aion to be disapointing.

However the main thing which has put me off somewhat is hearing that the endgame will be a lot more like "old school" MMO's with a lot of people mentioning similarity to Vanilla WoW in that you have to hammer in a lot of play time to get the rewards. This was great for me at the time of Vanilla WoW and I really enjoyed it but as Im a lot older with a lot more commitments I do not particularly fancy playing a game when I will either have to dedicate my life to it to have ahalf decent chance at not getting steam rolled in the PvP, or be a casual player I am and spend my game time getting slapped around by those with much better gear.

Essentially I am asking is there much room for casual players in the endgame? I know not many (if any) people will have reached the higher levels yet but what is the impression that you get of the highest level content? Whilst WoW has become a bit too simple at least I can play this game an hour or two every few days and still get some decent rewards for my efforts, going back to a Vanilla WoW-esque reward system at my age makes me shudder :p

I'm expecting the endgame to be much more similar to Daocs endgame than WoWs. Where gear wasnt massively important, certainly not as important as running with a decent group of people.

Now, having said that, I will say the same to you as I did to someone else earlier in the thread. If you are having doubts, and you believe that you will have/or are already having more fun in another MMO... then if I was you I would call it a day here and go to the other MMO.

As I said to that guy, if you play a game without really 'wanting' to, then you will just subconciously repeatedly see the 'bad' things about the game and in the end you will end up disillusioned and leave anyway. Better to simply play the thing that you really want to play, and then maybe somewhere down the line you can take another look at it and it might be more appealing then. No harm in that, the game isnt going anywhere :)

Life is too short to be spending time on something that you feel you ought to like instead of something that you actually do like.

Seriously guys/gals.

Compare this to WoW.

Could some of you who have played both give a comparison and a good things / bad things list?

Thanks

Mad skillz to grind with.
Don't expect to play this game without grinding!
This game lack a lot of quests to fill inbetween levels at Lvl20+.

Yeah, I've been sure to mention all along that some people wont be used to the grind in Aion. I'm certain it will put people off who arent used to the older style MMOs that contained more of a grind to them (the EQ, UO, Daoc's of the MMO genre)

Personally having fewer quests is one of the big draws to me (then again I do consider UO to be the best MMO ever and that didnt have a single quest in it :) ). I'm quite happy about the reduced questing and increased grinding, as it makes you group, and grouping creates bonds and enhances the social side, and that creates ingame (and out of game) community...which is something sorely lacking in most modern MMOs (where everyone goes around in their own private little bubble barely interacting with anyone until they hit max level)

So.....Still can't get this to run on Win7, as predicted NC are useless and told me to install DX 9

Can someone on Win7 check there fonts (just type fonts in the start menu) and see if they have a font called Verdana Regular showing please.

As this is the error I get when I try to launch..

Message: Font 'Verdana' does not support style 'Regular'.

And indeed I do not have the "regular" Verdana font, just Bold, Bold Italic and Italic.

Thanks Guys :)

Check your email.

Also, before you do that, goto c:\windows\fonts and double click on Verdana. When that opens you should see Bold, Bold Italic, Italic and Regular versions, 4 fonts files in total. If you don't then refer to the email.

Installing a font is not as easy as simply copying and pasting (or moving) a font into the c:\windows\fonts folder. Read this guide instead...
