**Official** Aion RELEASE Thread

However when conan came out people said the same things "it's not for everyone, you will get ganked etc..."

I was one of the people who said from the start that Conan wasnt a good game. There were just too many negatives in Conan for me to rate it as a game, too much effort gone into the start areas so that good impressions would be made on reviewers etc..the rest of the game paled in comparison to the start area and you couldnt help but feel deflated after leaving the start. Bizarre statistics on items like 0.3 , 0.1 and so on. Too much emphasis on making things look pretty, rather than making things run well and play well. Too much linearity and much too cramped zone design. Inability to do large scale pvp to any great effect, too much instancey types of situations...and so on.

Overall, Aion feels a lot like Daoc to me, entering Morheim feels uncannily similar to taking those first steps into the frontiers in early Daoc. The game mechanics are even fairly similar to Daoc. IMO, Aion is a laster, its here to stay and will do pretty well...though first there will be quite a few bumps as some players complain about being ganked, getting their kills stolen, not getting enough xp and so on. I hope NCsoft do not cave in to those people, they have plenty of other games where they can get all that they need, they dont need to be ranting and raving on Aions forums in an odd attempt to turn Aion into the very game they left to play Aion.

A very decent reply tombstone, thankyou. I am now rather excited to try this, going to wait to hear how end-game and such is though first before diving in this time. Got stung hard by a couple of recent mmo's.

Thanks, I like to try and stay objective. As much as I like the game, I do understand that aspects of it will not be to everyones liking, so I am always careful when recommending the game to point out that it may (or may not) be like the MMO a person is used to.

The game whilst very polished, visually pleasing and fun...the UI is *****, the chat system is ****, the community consists of 13 year old wow players, the crafting isnt upto scratch, and at certain levels there are not enough quests meaning you need to grind 1m exp from crappy orange mobs.

Hope it gets sorted in next big patch.

hi guys i have a question please if someone could answer for me?

ive had Aion since released but havent installed it yet as im waiting for lloyds tsb to switch my account for me which hasnt been finalized yet.
i understand i have to install the game and then use the credit card in the box for activation which will then give me 30 days free play time.
when activated and i have created a account do i need to input my bank details straight as this is the only reason i havent yet installed the game yet and i dont want to use my old bank details?

The UI could do with being a bit more flexible. The chat system is fine in my opinion (other than it needs an opacity slider, but I am including that under UI rather than chat). The community can be iffy at the moment, hopefully that will resolve itself somewhat when the "13 year old wow players" quit at the end of the free-play.

I quite like the crafting system.

I dont mind them adding extra quests, just so long as they make them mostly group quests and not solo ones. I am equally happy if they dont add new quests, people will whine about the grind, but its still faster levelling than classic Daoc was and that was one of (if not the) best PvP MMO I've played.

I'm afraid I dont know how the retail box works, I bought mine direct from NCsoft as a download so I dont have a box. I did enter my bank details when I set up my account when I did that, but I couldnt say whether the same stands for the boxed version.

More new servers added..

Today we will be adding two additional servers. We will be adding a new French server named Arbolu and a new English server named Kalil. As we continue to grow and add more servers we realize that switching from a queued server isn’t an easy decision. In order to incentivize play on these 2 servers, as well as the recently opened German server Lephar, we will be offering 10 consumable experience potions that boost your experience by 20% for one hour. These will be available through the survey system to one character per account on these servers and only for this weekend!

And now for a bit of the history of the names…

Arbolu is keeper of the Genesis Spring in Heiron, and a divine tree who leads a village where humans and Elim live in harmony.

Kalil was a great Prophet said to have written a book detailing the futures of both the Asmodian and Elyos peoples, followers of this book have become known as Disciples of Kalil.

Thanks!

I haven't played an MMO for a few months now and im wanting to get back into one. I used to play runescape on and off for many years, (from 2001 - 2008/9 to be exact) although i mostly skilled instead of pvp. I'd play for quite a few hours a day, more then your casual 2 hours a day gamer. Do any of you have any input on whether id enjoy this?
Going off the comments it seems to be very pvp oriented although i do enjoy the grinding of lvls (i played grindscape for 7/8 years, id have to :p).

I was in a similar situation played EQ religiously for about 4 years.....then dabbeled in pretty much every MMO since then but non have been able to hold my attenion (apart from EQ2).

I gave up for some time but recently had some spare time on my hands and tried Aion and so far its definatly looking promising!! The thing that got me about a lot of the new MMO's is the "easyness" of them and how everyone got to the same stage easily and you never felt truely unique or accomplished....Aion seems to campture a lot of that oldskool feeling and yes there is a grind but its a nescary evil imo.....

You see the WoW kids drop off about mid-twenties and you have a pretty good player base :) you also put a lot of effort in to get somewhere and feel more of an accomplishment...the game's progression levels make you want to go on as within the next few levels there is normally something to aim for...(I guess Aion has the upper hand from being matured in this way through the Korean market...)

I definatly say you have to try it!

Thanks for your words of wisdom, i think il definitely give it a go, i was going to wait for a free trial but everything iv heard about it is mostly positive. Your right, the sense of accomplishment is what i play for, id quit after a few days if it was just too easy. After pouring a couple thousand hours into RS (and still not maxing out all levels) it struggles to grasp my attention anymore and i think this could be the fresh new grindfest i've been waiting for.

Greetings,

A lot has happened since I last addressed our community. We’ve launched our long awaited product Aion and have been pleased and challenged with keeping up with the massive player demand.

There’s no doubt that we’ve done some things very well with Aion: the product is polished and incredibly fun. We managed to deploy to North America and Europe within the same week and have experienced strong demand. As most of you are aware, this has come at a cost in the form of queue times. This is by far our biggest challenge and has led to some frustration as players wait to enter their server of choice.

In preparation for Aion’s launch, we ran calculations of our presale numbers with historical conversion ratios and expected concurrency numbers, which led to our determination of launch day server needs. In addition, we had a 25 percent additional capacity in hardware reserve and the ability to increase server population. We’ve further responded to the overwhelming demand by adding additional server worlds in all languages, and still we are working around the clock to address the incredible demand. For example, we’re seeing timeframes where 60 percent or more of our players are playing at any given time. This is a significant event by any MMO standard. Another surprising development is how long players are staying in game—I think that’s a testament to the enjoyable nature of the product.

I’m sure many of you are thinking, “That’s all fine-but how does that help me get in and play the game? What is NCsoft doing for me?” Fair question. First, we have already and will continue to increase server capacity to ensure that we have server space for every user. The reality of the situation is that some servers quickly become very popular servers, with lines queued up to enter, but other servers have plenty of space to accommodate players. Obviously, adding servers won’t help in this case. If you’re waiting to enter a full server, 100 extra servers won’t help.

So the next question may be “What about my character I’ve already spent time on?” Another good question. I’m excited to confirm that we are currently working on implementing a server transfer service beginning next month. Specifically, we will offer every player a free one-time server transfer for a limited time to select servers. You can rest assured that addressing the demand for Aion is our biggest priority. And I know a big question is “Why did you not deploy more servers?” Most of you are savvy enough to realize that a healthy MMO server needs a robust population. We have to calculate our reasonable concurrency numbers in a week and in a month and beyond. The last thing we want to do to our players is spread them out so that the “massively” in “massively multiplayer” gets lost..

I read an interesting conversation about a safari hunter, and the question was posed to him: “Why don’t you take an Olympic sharpshooter that could hit a bulls-eye at 300 meters?” His response was: “I don’t care what he can do at 300 meters, what can he do at two meters?” And that’s definitely where we are now: the rhino is upon us. We’ve spent months planning and have researched multiple MMO launches, hoping to learn from previous success and failures. It is imperative to your long term enjoyment of Aion that we carefully manage the health of the servers. We’re looking at making sure the Abyss is alive with conflict and legions fighting for control in an EPIC war.

At this point,I would like to stress that you, our players, are our number one priority and that we are doing everything we can to ensure that Aion exceeds your expectations.

The community team and I will continue to provide you with progress updates as we receive them, and you can always continue to monitor issues, check on server status, etc. at http://www.aiononline.com.

In closing I’d like to say thank you to the worldwide Aion community. I am really excited about the response to Aion and I look forward to providing you with the best possible play experience for years to come.

Best regards,

Lance Stites

Couple of quick Aion questions....

Is there a way to put a dark background behind the chat box as it is very difficult for me to read over the moving background of the game. I have changed the text colours but it still gives me headache, literaly. Very strange to have done it that way.

Is there away to disable tool tips, when the cursor goes over a skill it pops up a large box with the skill description, can this be turned off? I like to use the mouse as much as possible.

Im playing a Chanter and starting to get a little worried as to when people are trying to form groups they are not taking Chanters in the party. I realise that at low level we might not be supreme buffers but is this something that is going to continue in later levels? Right now people are taking DD and ignoring Chanter altogether. I don't want to run into problems completing quests for being the neglected class.

Thats my single biggest complaint in the game (and I dont have many complaints), really hope they patch in an opacity slider for the chatbox.

I know one thing, in later pvp groups I adore having a chanter along. I think in the lower levels it might just be to do with unfamiliarity. People arent as familiar with chanter as the other classes, anyone coming from any MMO knows about tanks and healers and nukers..but they arent so familiar with classes like chanters (unless they came from Daoc). So at lower levels they dont quite understand the role and uses of a chanter and just ignore it in favour of what they know.

i'm worrying the same about pvp. im a level 12 sorcerer, and i'm extremely worried that i'll get owned in pvp. having played WoW as a mage, i realize it's hard to keep distance away from people at all times. yesterday i dueled a friend of mine, same level, who's a templar. we dueled 8 times, he won the first 7, and i won the 8th because i realized a pattern to beat him.

it was start of with root, sleep, ice chains and frozen shock, firebolt and blaze, fly away a bit more, root again, sleep again, firebolt again and i win. even with all of this, i can't avoid getting hit, and i have to fly or run away quite a lot. this is bad because unless i've used ice chains or w/e, he will catch me up and land a few more hits on me. also, i did forget to use earth shield the first 7 times, but it's not that important right?

any tips?

Dont forget that you will also have the rest of your group/alliance with you. Dont be disheartened if things seem bleak in 1 on 1 pvp. As with Daoc, 1 v 1 will very very rarely happen because being solo in the abyss tends to have a life expectancy of about 30 seconds :D

Its upto your group/guild/alliance mates to do their best to ensure that clothies and healers are kept as clear from being engaged as possible.

its interesting, every mage player on Gorgos has rolled a Sorcerer so it must have something..

i went the path of the Spiritmaster and im just about to ding 23. We get a lot of different pets to summon all with different stats, damage and attacks. The main benefit of this class is survivability, we use our pet to tank and summon other spirits and apply DoTs to wear enemies down. Whilst all this is going on we get loads of handy CC and debuffs, which simply means we control the fight.

im really enjoying this class and its perfect for the grind, we can let our pet kill a mob whilst we go off farming resources. My advice would be to take up Alchemy asap and get farming as much Kandula and Theonia (sp) plants as possible because we go through mana like hot knife through butter!

**edit**

cant stress enough the importance of auto-attacks !! with a Book you get ranged auto but less damage.. with an Orb you get higher damage but you need to be within melee range for auto-attacks..

-auto-attacks really do make a massive difference as in between certain skill chains the auto attacks do a lot of extra damage !!
