**Official** Aion RELEASE Thread

Regardless of what quests they release you can still grind and enjoy the game of levelling, personally I'm very much looking forward to the mass PvP so I want to have the opportunity to get there with the time that I have available to me to play it (which is by no means casual nor hardcore) otherwise I'm going to get bored, whichever way you look at it kill x bears, grind xxx heavy leather gets dull after a little while, gear upgrades dont but the quests do and unless I'm mistaken the server I'm on doesnt strike me as being very RPG oreintated.

We will see though, right now I'm loving the game and levelling/grinding is not an issue to me but I am only 15.

Indeed, but the trouble is..whack in a load of soloable quests and we end up in the same situation that has ruined the community aspect that MMOs in the past had. People just run about, never grouping, soloing stuff to level.

Keep a grind or make it mainly group quests and we get some kind of similar social aspect that was present in the great MMOs of the past like EQ, UO and Daoc.

Like I say though, I've warned everyone from the start that Aion has a heavy grind. I think some will hit that grind in the 20s and 30s and give up. However, I still hope they keep the focus on either grinding or group questing, I am sick of private bubble MMOs.

Still no signs of the queues easing up then?

They have eased quite a bit in the last week (at least on our server), I logged in at just gone 6pm this evening and the queue was 30 mins. Yesterday at the same time it was 41 mins. Looking good for my prediction that queues would be largely gone at the end of the free month to come true :)

Only a 22min queue last night! it messed my routine up as I normally log on when I get home then have a nice hour or two to eat, get any chores done and then have a an hour or to on Aion but it only gave me 20mins last night!!

Loving the Stigma's at 20... :)

Queues are still 2h+ on Spatalos server.

I am Cleric lvl 32 now I have started thinking slowly of leaving the game.

Queues, this is a joke, nothing is being done (probably no more after the free month is up). But still 30%-40% of my time I can play the game is spent in queues.

Bots - at first I didn't believe what other people have been saying, until the last few days, I can see bots killing all mobs in certain areas of the game 24/7 now, in some places with fast respown times 10-15 bots in 1 place. Its easy to spot them, some are with just random letters like FJJIILOO or whatever. Also you can see the way they kill mobs, just run to any mobs in their range and attack and repeat and repeat, this include mobs you want to kill.

Game crashes while doing massive PVP battle - reported by many people in game and on various forums, I dont think that anything will be done, the game is not new and NSOFT seems to be interested in fixing nothing. It doesnt crash often for me, only 1-2 times while doing PVP massive battles but still.

No GMs in game - this game is with a monthly subscription not some free random game.

Anyway I think the game will fail due to NSOFTs way of supporting the game, I doubt that the game will get any updates and with time everyone will be using bots to lvl up as this game is heave on girding on later levels which EU players are not used to.

I know the game have sold well but which MMORPG hasn't in recent years, the demand is always huge.

I think soon I am going to give up playing MMORPG games and concentrate on online games only.

How are you defining fail?

The game is already a financial success purely from its asian user base, the western market is merely cream on top. It could drop to 100k western users and would still financially make money. (not that I think it will drop as low as 100k).

Given NCsofts track record with updates in Guild Wars and Lineage 2, what makes you think that they will decide to not update Aion?

What makes you think "everyone" will be using bots to level? I will never use a bot in any MMO..I am an EU player and the so called "grind" in Aion is less of a grind than there was in both EQ1 and Daoc , and even to a degree UO. All of which were games that were successes.

The queues are really quite minor, they are already dropping and are pretty low now on most servers. Spatalos is a slightly difference case as everyone and their dog decided to roll there. On top of that there are server transfers coming (not that anyone who whines about queues will bother to move, they will simply expect everyone else to move for them). Aside from that, once the free month is up many of the MMO crowd who are used to fast levelling MMOs will return to those fast levelling MMOs , which in turn will reduce the queues even further.

I havent had any crashes in PvP yet, though maybe thats down to the lower population on my server.

GMs in game...this I agree with, I would love to see more active GMs in game. Sadly it seems that very few MMOs bother to have active ingame GMs. Something I would like to see changed but I dont see it happening really. Lets face it, If I worked as a GM the absolute last thing I would want to do is be ingame and get nonstop abuse from hundreds of players and have the rest of the players constantly begging me for items/levels/freebies. Must be a tremendously thankless job.

Bots...yep...darn annoying bots are. Its a strange one to me, I dont remember many bots at all in the golden age of MMOs. It seems to be something which has become more and more widespread in the last 4 or 5 years in MMOs. I am curious as to why that is..even fast levelling games like WoW are riddled with bots. I cant help but think the problem doesnt so much lie with the games than it does with the players. Perhaps if players had some morals and didnt want everything in the easiest and quickest way possible then we wouldnt have so many bots around.

One tip though, make sure that you report every single bot you see. I always report them..I also keep a record of every bots name (just to see if they are being dealt with), I reported 4 bots on Sunday and I havent seen them online since. So , at least to a degree, reporting them does appear to be working.

As a clueless middle-aged man who doesn't have the time to play mmo's all week, what are bots? Is that an automated character that repeats same actions like mine minerals in Wow or Eve? Or is it a npc that is part of your team like Guild Wars?

Yep, basically a normal character running an unattended macro, at its simplest something like :

Target nearest
Autoattack
Loot
Repeat

If set running in an area of low level mobs it can keep it pretty much cleared out without every getting into any difficulty.

i can understand the frustrations above, but the games only just been released over here and its bound to have problems.. NcSoft seem to actually listen to feedback and are aware of the problems most of us face.

hopefully a lot will leave the game, there are plenty who cant adjust from WoW syndrome ;p and will return back to that, also many who bought it to try out might not re-sub.

last thing i want is for them to open say 10 new servers, the population on all current servers becomes imbalanced and desolate like what happened to Warhammer Online (RIP).

Its a great MMo with a lot of depth and in the long run i think it will be successful, yes im quite sure it will be.

I'm going to level on Kalil and move servers when they offer the free transfer. Haven't got the patience to be queuing that long, i just want to play. Level 15 Gladiator atm :)

I wouldn't count on that, in WAR they offered population moves from the high pop servers to the low ones. Which makes sense, when you think about it.

we waited 5 years for server transfer service on lineage 2 (NCsoft also) and you have to pay £20 for 1 character

The most sensible route to take is to wait until after the 30 days free trial is up (as many have pointed out above), once this is over then NCSoft are on the business end of the game and we will see just how serious they treat issues such as mass queueing, if it still is indeed a problem.

Its impossible to judge population during this period and possibly even until after xmas.

Its no secret that NCSoft also dont take open transfers lightly, they have said on occasions that they do not want to fall into the trap of having light communities, this is afterall a 90vs90 pvp game.

If they got rid of the gold farmers/bots alone, you'd probably reduce a fair slice of the problem.

Even more than 90v90 sometimes :D

I wish they could get rid of all the farmers and bots, but its just not going to be possible. Even Blizzard with all their gazillions of $$ havent managed to do that. Perhaps though if they can get rid of 75% of them , that would suffice. Of course, ultimately the best way to get rid of them would be for players to stop damn well buying the virtual goods off them. Sadly though, thats even less likely to happen.
