**Official** Aion RELEASE Thread

I think you right for certain class's. I have a SM as my main and tbh I find it a but tedious, I have a low level Ranger alt which is much more fun.

I also think the spacing of the spells you are granted is a bit far apart, I would rather have one or 2 a level that 6-7 every 3 levels. It give you something else to grind for.

Yep but then you wind up being another WoW clone, I like how they tried to do things a bit differently but in the end WoW did have most things down pretty darn well by the time I finished with it. Levelling in WoW is fun/rewarding and the new abilities every 2 levels is pretty nice also.

I think for me anyway I have played WoW so much I am just sick of MMO's in general :P Been playing Batman and TF2 recently but have completed Batman so mainly just TF2

Batman was awesome, bring on Forza3 next week (don't mess me about posties) then at least I have something to keep me from burning out on Aion :)

I must admit, WoW does what it does very well. It just doesnt do enough for me personally though. The PvP just wasnt what I wanted from PvP (which was odd as I expected it to be coming from the franchise it did) and I really detest the whole solo through the levels lark, just goes against everything I play an MMO for.

I never thought I would like Aion, it was only after playing it and seeing how similar it felt to Daoc that I realised that here was an MMO which appealed to the very reason I got into MMOs in the first place all those years ago.

Both WoW and Aion are great games in my opinion, just aimed at different people. This has so far been the best and most social fun I have had in an MMO since Daoc in 2001. Ever since 2004 I have felt that MMOs have been going the wrong way (just in my opinion), none have grabbed me quite like the early MMOs (UO, EQ, Daoc)... until now that is. Currently I add Aion to those 3 as my favourite MMOs ever. All that remains for me, is to see if it stands the test of time and whether I put in the same 4 years that I did in UO and Daoc. Will all hinge on how good the PvP stays.

Really cannot decide wether to get this or not.

I have enjoyed WoW right up to the Nax revamp and Lotr. Just got a new pc and tried Warhammer again but that is shocking, more like a single player game.

Not sure if I like the style of Aion. Looks like a free roaming Soul Calibur to me with a lot of cart wheeling around.

If it has lost's of variety in Armour and crafting but not sure about this epic grinding I hear about. Maybe I will read about it a bit more.

Kinda depends what you like in an MMO really. You liked WoW and Lotro, what was it about those that you liked/disliked? That might give some indication of whether you will like Aion.

Did you ever get the chance to play early Daoc? Aion is very similar to that in game mechanics.

I never had the chance to play Daoc.

WoW I enjoyed the competition of levelling and grabbing rare items. I think mainly its how the world has no zones for the main levelling areas and it was always busy.

Lotr is very true to the books/films imo and I do enjoy the questing. Shame there is no pvp or opposing faction, Only played till lvl 25 I think.

Aion looks like it has the competition but its the style thats bothering me. Not a fan of eastern art styles and as far as I know there is no lore backing it up. Just a lot of anime style characters running around making high pitch noises.

Wish there was a demo and I could decide!

/edit whats the standard of the PVP like? Will have to read through this epic thread to get a better idea.

Yup, I dont particularly like asian style artwork either. When I got into the closed beta I didnt even bother to download it because I really didnt think it would be my thing. Only did because I was bored one weekend, thank god I did though as I discovered it was more like Daoc than I could have imagined and I just learned to not notice the style of graphics.

The PvP is a lot like Daocs, decent array of CC, decent counters. Good array of skills for the various classes. 9 keeps to capture in the Abyss (basically the same as Daocs frontiers). Plus rifts (portals) that open to the enemy lands very regularly so that you can be attacked while trying to level. Little 1 on 1 or "equal" pvp, its generally larger scale and/or un-even numbers.

There is plenty of Lore in various cutscenes and ingame books if you read them, though its a brand new lore so its not one that anyone would be familiar with. On the plus side I guess thats better for the devs as they can write the lore to whatever they want rather than having to follow a story thats pre-existing.

Not really sure there is much of a competition of levelling...at least not that I have noticed. Mind you I am not particularly competitive so I wouldnt really notice it anyway. The levelling is much much slower than WoW or Lotro though, its much closer to the kinds of levelling speeds in earlier MMOs. Also its pretty much impossible to solo level to any decent level, by about the late 20s you really do find that running about solo tends to be slower for xp and makes you very prone to be jumped by enemy players as easy cannon fodder.

(I know I referenced Daoc a few times there even though you said you hadnt played it, but its really difficult to explain what its like without constantly get Daoc in my head, its quite a different experience to WoW and Lotro)

I think overall, if you arent sure, I would suggest waiting for a trial to come out. Though I suppose that could be quite some time. Unless you dont mind spending the money and maybe finding that its really not to your tastes. Above all, if you do try it, enter it with an open mind. Its not the next WoW, it isnt WoW 2.0 (as I fear many people have found out to their disappointment), so you have to be prepared to absorb those differences.

I enjoyed my time in Lotro. Its certainly my favourite PvE MMO currently on the market. I just really wish they had gone the whole hog and put in full PvP with properly playable "evil" races.

If ever an IP was so fitting for a PvP MMO, Lord of the Rings would be it. Its a shame they didnt go for it.

Aye, going to try the free week they have for old accounts and then decide If I can handle the lack of full faction PvP.

LOL thats a pet! insane, looks like the infernal in wow (warlock) except that spent most of its time beating on you than enemies.

wow will do that to people.

eq2 etc and the older mmos all had something special wow seems to lack.

maybe they were more rewarding because everything was harder and it was pretty much mainly adults playing.

wow pretty much gives you everything and keeps on giving until your all dried up and rotten inside

Killed a few <OcUK> Tagged Asmos on Spatalos, is it as bad Asmo side as Elyos for the Bots everywhere and streaming Gold-Spam in chat? I've reported 10 Bots a day for over two weeks and they're all still in the game :(

NCSoft just don't seem to care, it's getting tiresome blocking 5-6 brand new Spam Bots every time I log in, really putting me off the Game, specially when I see so many Guild-Tagged Bots, I sure hope they take some drastic action soon against these game ruining ****s

The problem is that you have to do way too much mindless grind in this game, this is not even in the last 10 levels or so but from lvl 25+ I'd say, hence the amount of bots is ridiculous, even though after the first bot wipe there are many less bots around and it doesn't really bother me at all as they do not stick in 10+ bots in the same spot anymore.

The problem isnt the grind, the problem is that some people just have way less integrity. I have to level the same as everyone else, yet i dont bot. Thousands of other players on every server level without botting. So whats the difference between them and botters, they dont have a different grind so that cant be the difference. Must be that they have more integrity, know whats right and wrong and dont do it.

Another example of this is that mmos like daoc, eq and to a degree uo all had much worse grinds than aion, but not the botting problem. No, i dont think its the grind thats the problem... Its the players that are the problem, the players and their new gimme gimme now now for minimum effort attitude

Thought id add alittle computer update (in the constantly crash in capital boat)

I went to install windows XP 64bit over the weekend, And my god was that a bad idea! I couldnt even get the game to load! Was a joke to be fair, Even reinstalled 2 times just to make sure i didnt mess it up! Was not having any of it. So back to Windows 7, Altho there was some good out of it, Now i dont seem to crash when i die now! Just in heavly populated area's, I really hope they fix it before all the mass pvp kicks off!
