*** Official AMD 7990 Owners Thread ***

I've uploaded mine here Matt as requested

http://www.sendspace.com/file/psmrbx

Gigabyte1.rom Master bios on my switch 2 backup
Gigabyte2.rom Slave bios on my switch 2 backup

These 2 are the bio's i have from following your initial instructions using the malta1,malta2 you uploaded. +50 Powerlimit and overclocking voltage working. (from my current switch 1).
Malta1new.rom Master bios
Malta2new.rom Slave bios

for both pair, gpu-z reports the same bios versions

015.032.000.004.002985 113c47601s0-101 slave
015.032.000.004.002984 113c47601m0-101 master
(both 002984 if ULPS is enabled)

Lemme know what's going on and if i need to change or not :P

I have an XFX card too remember?! :p I was hoping you had kept a backup rom from your old card. Hopefully one of the guys with an Asus Card can provide us with their bios!

Oh well I know there are a few guys here with Asus cards so hopefully one of them will pop into the thread to provide a bios soon!

asus 7990 bios for card 1+2
http://www.sendspace.com/file/dojmkr
its taken from switch 1 if that matters? not altered in any way though.

dont think it has mem voltage control (or at least i cant activate it in ab)

Tryed that new bios... Voltage changed now in GPU Z. I tryed my old overclock of 1100/1630 it locked up the first time... upped the voltage to 1210 and it worked fine on all 3 trys.

Would my Gigabyte X58a udr3 + i7 930 @ 3.8ghz hold me back with this card? My mobo only has 16x lanes.

I game @ 1440p, the single 7970 im using is underperforming with the latest titles at ultra. Im not even able to sustain a stable 50fps in Bf4, Ghosts is fine.
Bf4 makes my card run at 99%, so I definitely need an upgrade.

Would you guys throw in a r280x to cf, or sell the 7970 and buy one of these. What's the power draw difference?

7990 draws less power than 2x7970 afaik. The cpu at that speed is essentially same as mine. It might hold it back a bit, but who cares? I doubt it is being held back to the point it's better off getting another card.

If your psu and case temps are fine then 2x 7970 prob the best option, at least financially.

My power supply is fine but according to reviews doesn't hit the rated 80+, sometimes hitting as low as 75 efficiency, not good I know.

Also it's only 750w.. Worth upgrading if I stick in another 7970/r280?

Thanks

max power draw of a 7990 = 375w
max power draw of xfire 7970 = 225x2 = 450w

a decent 750w psu will run either just fine.
so depending on what brand ur psu is, you may/may not need to upgrade

Cheers for that info.

Psu is a TT Evo Blue 750w (2010), efficiency : 75%

LTMatt......What was your logic behind dropping crossfire 7950's for the 7990? Isn't the 7990 pretty much identical in performance to OCd 7950s which you had? I've heard that the 7990 makes more noise and also gets quite a bit warmer than the 7950's, so I'm keen to know what the reason behind it is. Do you plan on a 2nd 7990 at some point? 12gig of memory wow lmao, thats gotta take a serious PSU

I've always wanted a 7990 to be honest and i was getting bored of my 7950's. Stock 7990 is about 15-17.5% faster than stock 7950. My minimum fps have taken a boost. The 7990 is a powerful card. Needs water cooling to get the most from it though. The 7990 on auto fan is silent, unless temps get past 90c. They shouldn't if you have good airflow in your case. I have no plans to add a second 7990 sadly, but in the future who knows.

that's an expensive boredom lol.

I just noticed your scores in the Sleeping Dogs Benchmark thread;

6. Score 108.9, GPU 7990 @1100/1700, CPU 2700k @4.9 LtMatt Link
7. Score 108.0, GPU 7950 @1208/1750, CPU 2700k @4.8 LtMatt Link 13.8 Beta 2 drivers

Was that improvement in frames worthy of £500 upgrade??? Damn dude, you got to much money lol. Actually, I just seen you hit 111fps now, I still couldn't justify spending that much money for something thats only 3fps better than what you had. You crazy fool you lmao. Fair play to you though.
