***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Does anyone here use AMD CCC for overclocking, I'm running autotune and it has (so far) tested 15 frequencies, currently on 6200mhz, multiplier 31, voltage 1.485.

This cant be for real...?

No that cant be right. You would need LN2.

I tried it and manually stopped it beyond 5Ghz. It must be a glitch with the beta drivers is all I can think of.

I thought so mate, It got to 6300mhz, then rebooted, then I went back into it, then slider runs from 4700-6300, so I slide it to 4800 and pressed apply, but CPU-Z is still showing 4600. It's not working for some reason.

Apologies for not going through all 71 pages of the thread, but could someone give me an idea of socket and package max temps for the 8320

Mine is currently running 4.4Ghz @ 1.416V, the Package Temp peaked at 60C - Socket peaked at 80C

Well depends on what clock your at and how long you have been at this temperature but mine are roungly this at 4.66Ghz:

Socket < 46

Package < 42

I can't get it to work either. Max oc it found was 6300 MHz at which point I thought it was being silly so I uninstalled it pending a guide from Panos at some stage.

This was an 8hr Prime blend test - so fully loaded.

I mentioned my clock in my post:
"4.4Ghz @ 1.416V, the Package Temp peaked at 60C - Socket peaked at 80C"

You can't really run things like Prime95 when overclocked as they're on the very limit at stock, the FX8350 certainly is anyway.

Once you go to 4.4ghz or so temperatures are unmanageable under thorough testing.

An 8350 can certainly run above 4.4GHz maxed out with decent cooling. Prime just puts a very unrealistic load on the CPU and so isn't useful for genuine load temps.

LinX puts the same sort of load on as Prime. It also gets a CPU as hot as Prime. However, it does it all quickly and the test is over within a few minutes. If you come out of it with a pass? your CPU is stable.

Running Prime 95 for hours on end is just a waste of time, electricity and the risk you'll damage your motherboard.

If your temps are too high in LinX then you'll be in trouble on certain levels in Crysis 3. The swamp level for example is just as cruel on a CPU as LinX. If you are aiming for 100% stability and acceptable temps in everything you could wish to run then LinX is how you do it.

Another stress test is to use your CPU folding overnight. First try it at 75% (this is on all cores so does push it), then if that's stable turn it on to full. If you can fold overnight without any errors/BSOD/reboots then you are normally good to go.

How do I update my BIOS, I've got a asus crosshair v formula z, I've downloaed the latest version 1.0.025 from the asus site, but I don't know how to activate it, it's a CAP file. Anyone know how I open it and what to do, thanks.

There should be a guide on the Asus site or manual. Basically it goes on a USB drive and then you use the update tool in the bios
