***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Here's the temps for my current clock (4.6Ghz):

This has been folding for just under six hours with all cores between 70-90% used. Pretty similar to gaming and no stop/starting to skew the temperatures.

I can give it a whirl (was waiting for Panos' guide to make it worthwhile :D ), currently on 230 fsb so would just step up the multi by 0.5 hopefully temps still stay below 50 when gaming.

Very nice temps Thont. Sweet setup. Have you tried the same at 4.8 GHz? What temps did you get on that frequency?

OK. Heres the usage and temps playing BF4 (prison map) after upping the multi by 0.5:

That's almost 4.8 for you alex :)

Th0nt, what is your max temp on cinebench? It pwns my cooling...

It only pushes it to 46 normally.

I can't get it to work either. Max oc it found was 6300 MHz at which point I thought it was being silly so I uninstalled it pending a guide from Panos at some stage.

Hi,

I wrote couple of pages ago a quick quide. :)

Also I do not have the FX as of today. A colleague of mine made a nice offer for the whole system on as is overclocked (including the 7950 @ 1100/1550) and could have being silly of me to refuse.

So atm considering my upgrade path.

Oh no not the dark side!! :)

My socket temps go over 70C at 4.4Ghz on my 8320 - how are you cooling yours?

It's in a decent case for airflow and has a H100 - nothing special.

Strange.. Is the pump working? make sure it's not being slowed by the bios (IE set the fan headers to 100%).

Or is the pump running at 12v? I'm not sure how the H80 connects.

When back in the country tomorrow, probably going to order the stuff, and yes more likely have joined the dark side on both counts (4820K & GTX780)

No worries, if I had cash to spare it would be a different story too. Get the best you can afford!

Thanks for the guide Panos.

The 4820 is very good. You will enjoy it. I love my X79 system, I have to say. Really chews through all my encoding.

Yep. Thanks.
Tbh I do not see the point to the argument that "X79 is more expensive get 4770K because boards are cheaper"

The MSI GD45 Plus goes for as much as the avg Z87 board, the 4820K can be found (retail kit) for less than a 4770K, and 8GB DDR3 2400 in quad channel kit (4 x 2GB) cost as much as 8GB DDR3 2400 dual channel.

And there is a list of little good points that make a big difference when you compare the systems.

And that is going to be my second Intel ever. :o Since 1993 used AMD (386dx40, 486dx80, K5, K6, K6-2, Athlon Tbird 1000, Athlon XP2200, Athlon MP2500+ , T1090, FX8350).

The only gap was between 2007-2011 when I had the Q6600 (between MP2500 and T1090).

Do not get me wrong. I am happy with the FX8350-7950 combo, however given that the offer is pretty good, I would be a fool not to accept.

And I get the 780, because it doesn't feel right not being able to use the 3d Vision kit, that has served me well since 2011.

I vote for a full ban. Nobody with Intel and Nvidia should be allowed here :p

Sig:
i7 4770K | Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H | Corsair 16gb | Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 2 | Asus GTX 670 DCII OC // SLI | Seasonic X760 | Samsung 840 EVO 500GB

Hmmm :D
