***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Try to view all of this as fun rather than disappointing if you can't quite get as high as you want. I'm fairly sure if you keep at it you can get 4.7GHz or so if you get the settings right, just rule out the graphics card for now.

True. It's just with the BF4 beta due tomorrow I want reliable gaming at the best possible spec! :D

Just thinking, I installed the chipset drivers from the disc that came with the mobo, I better check the versions against the asus site to make sure they're up to date

Evening all, another night another problem :D

So got 20 mins in to BF3 tonight before it crapped out, but this no time no BSOD, but I did get this error:

which looks to be a BF3 specific issue from the google results, anyone come across it?

Have you reset the graphics card back to stock clocks?

No I was waiting to see if the new drivers helped, I have now though, running stock clocks on maxed.out settings to push it.

That error looks more like an unstable GPU overclock. Put it back to stock and if you don't get any errors, work on your CPU overclock before you raise it again.

My 8320 arrived this morning and I have been overclocking for the last few hours, its stable on stock clocks at 4.6ghz, it needs to be bumped up to 1.45v to get stable at 4.7 but my H80 cant cope, with better cooling im convinced this chip will do 4.9

Im chuffed to bits with the result though, what great value these little chips they are.

with better cooling im convinced mine will break 5ghz :D

is your h80 new? iv found with a lot of corsair Hxx lately the pre applied compound was quite dry and needed replacing

Interestingly, the GPU temps mid game are 20° lower on standard clocks with standard volts

Definitely need to up my cooling!!

Nah it's a refurbed h80, it came with a couple of bent pins which I've straightened up, for stress testing I had the cooler on the highest setting & for everyday use I leave it on the middle setting.

I could try fancier thermal paste but im guessing that will only knock a couple of degrees off @ 4.7 the cpu was hitting 62oc so I really have reached the limit of my cooler.
What clocks/temp are you on? Edit ah I see it 4.8 very nice.

Sorry didn't get chance to post setting last night, was on playing bf3! All settings on Ultra depending on maps I was getting around 60 - 90fps.

CPU still at 4.9ghz managed to play for a good hour and half no problem.

I guess next to overclock is the 7850...currently running max settings ATI overdrive will let me.

They must be so good that farmerboy has not been here for a while assumed gaming his face off!! :D

Hey guys sorry I aint had any input last few days fiance was gonna shoot me as I spent all weekend tryung to hit 5ghz ooppps!

The thread is coming along nicely now pleased to see you guys are getting on well some not so well which is a shame.

I would agree your board maybe reaching vrm thermal limits orch 990 motherboard good investment.

Th0nt components update friend is on hols tried to contact weekend he's back friday so will get him to talk to you.

My own progress rock solid at 4.8 ghz temps are good hit 47 socket 36 core after hours of bf3 prime stable the fan over vrm on mobo a big help and push pull on rad with 4 typhoons keeping everything cool

Again good job on thread guys lets keep it up how do we make a sticky out of this?
