***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

I have mine stable at 4.8ghz now. Took some effort but its there.

I have been testing BF3 and I'm getting random drops into the 30fps at weird times. I have reloaded the GPU drivers and clocked my GPU up to 1275 on the core. But its still there.

I'm almost certain that the AMD cpu is not able to keep the minimum frames up all the time and its dropping. Its weird but on my 4670k it never happened or not as much as it becomes noticeable.

Not sure of anything else it can be or to try tbh. The CPU is prime and burn test stable. ?

It could be something with the GPU but as it works fin in other systems I'm not sure.

Will keep fiddling away...

Intel does have higher minimum frame rates.
But I can't comment on how low the AMD's get.
Are the drops in Multiplayer?

Well at least that is comforting to hear. Carry on investigating Moog.

Sounds like it could be a multitude of things, cant just blame the engine/devs.

Wings of liberty?
Just googled some benchmarks for it.
Very conflicting info, one has the Intels and FX8's neck and neck at almost 200 FPS.
Another has like a 20 FPS gap at 70-50.

The 100+ was WOL.

EDIT : I'm going to go to sleep, I can't wrap my head around opposite world :p

You should factually see a difference in GW2, especially in busy PVP.
SC2, I don't know if they've changed it with WOL, but in heavy scenes, there should be a difference.

BF3, you shouldn't really have a difference :p

I know this is unlikely, but is the CPU throttling? Have you checked what cores are doing during the dips in fps?

Will have to ring up and chase my order today knew no updates on picking/dispatching indicates something not right.

4.9ghz deffo the sweet spot for me at the moment, played BF3 last night without a hitch...downloaded BF4 Beta so will hopefully have a play tonight and post Fraps FPS benchmarks.

Nope have nothing to plug in there.. :D

It runs 4.8/5.0Ghz but it is not prime stable. When you run prime cores start failing.

I have tried a few setups and tweaked the settings myself and I cannot get it stable over 4.6ghz.

It does 4.6Ghz with 1.45v and 60.c so I'm sure there could be more.

My other issue is being %100 honest the 4670k is smoother in games even running 4.4Ghz. I would not say it's a huge difference but it's noticeable. It seems the 4670k pulls higher min fps.

I have tried a few games all with very similar results it's just not as smooth on the AMD.

I'm also not convinced it's just my lack of AMD experience causing this but I'm running low on ideas to try. I will use another PSU and run the extra power to the board from that to eliminate that.

Watch your temps dude. The CPU will throttle to save its own life. I had it on my Asrock board. It was fine at stock mind.

I've had no issues with BF3 at all tbh. In fact I was about half way through a playthrough before my old board got fried.

Did I miss something...what have you purchased? :)

..NOT!

OK fingers crossed and nothing is out of stock or stupid happens:

FX 8320
H100 refurbed
Sabertooth
8Gb Corsair Vengeance
Corbide 540

Must say, that is one freaking sweet looking rig.

Thanks chap ! yeah it's not bad. I found the case for £60 shipped which was a result. My family bought me the new board and CPU after mine went bang (Asrock Extreme 3) and the PSU was donated by a local company :)

Moogleys what GPU are you using, I can confirm that in win 7 with a 770GTX BF3 is smooth as anything with my 8320 @ 4.8, and the mother of all system killers crysis 3 also the same.

Small update guys, 5.0 is benchable, but I had to wind up the volts to 1.58 before i stopped, and still couldn't get AOD stable, funny though I could run Aida stress test for 15 mins +

So looks like 5 24/7 is either going to take some work or is beyond my chips capability.

Yes give it a bash and post back with your FPS and experiences. :)
