***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

I was going to utilise the trial edition for a few months, however it seems once the period has ended - even if you buy a license you still have to re-install.

Will have to ring up and chase my order today knew no updates on picking/dispatching indicates something not right.

Latest Update*

After I rang them it seemed to flush the order through with the support guy going to see where the picking phase is. Now it has been dispatched with email updating me!

Much happier! :D

I hope we see pictures of the build after all this Th0nt. And stop saying i5s are better, or you'll be banished from this thread :p

Must remind myself to get camera ready on build day. Easy to get excited jumping in and then wanting to show photos afterwards (thinking cba stripping it apart after all this).

I have to say now that Andy is active here, much more confident with the components and his general feedback. All I kept hearing was poor this and that and half thread usage - no use to anyone unless we can hear/see it.

Ok so hopefully be able to start see how smooth the online games will run...powerlines ordered to stop the lag issues.

Going into the attic tonight to get a few fans down from my stock pile, stick some on the side of case to help with temperaturs and see if this will help me get 5ghz 100% stable.

I am so glad I went for the AMD setup now, a bit more fun to tweak and I do love the 'bargain' performance packaging.

Without wanting to stir the hornet's nest...

The results I've had in the real world completely wee in the face of what reviewers have said.

I still had my Xeon and board when I bought my first 8320 and board. I wanted to make sure it wasn't terrible.

I sold the Xeon and board. Can't really put it any clearer tbh. If the Intel CPUs were massively faster and not massively more expensive? then I would be here berating AMD in a heart beat. Piledriver didn't get the reviews it deserved tbh, and the ones that it did? I think a lot of people dismissed it before even bothering to get it running properly.

It's quite the shame what propaganda can do tbh. What's nice though? if you're able to ignore all the hatred and BS flying around? you actually end up with a nice surprise. They're an absolute hoot to overclock too.

Sweet rig there GinG

ALXAndy, agree with your thoughts on the AMD FX chips (piledriver). The 8320 especially for £110 notes is an i5 salyer all day long

Just to Add I have come from an i7 3770s clocked at 3.9Ghz this chip is double that of the 8320, and when clocked to 4.8Ghz+ the 8320 beats the i7.

And before anyone says it , I don't give a toss about the power draw!!

Nice clean build. Have you just got the H100?

Nope bought it with everything else.

May eventually go back down to the watercooling front, as I do have a XSPC bayres/pump & a TFC Xchanger - Double Radiator 240 sat in my stockpile but will do for now!

Edit - Infact I wonder if I can get my CPU waterblock to fit - OCZ HydroFlow HF-MK1 CPU Waterblock (754/939/940/AM2/LGA775/LGA1366) ??

Cheers mate, hopefully get to see its potential over the coming weeks with BF4. Crazy to think the performance and setup has only cost £570...well cost me nothing, thanks to my very generous granparents :D

This is very very true^

To be fair I do my research and sites like this are king when it comes to tech and current information. The last time I stewed on a build was to select my E8500 C2D and its components and they were fantastic lasting me nigh on 6 years now. The only improvements were two GPU's and a SSD over that lifetime. I had to replace a failed PSU.

When I seen the negativity on the PD I was watching from afar, then I noticed a lot of people had them they just wernt advertising them in their sigs.

Then I realised the people that berate them the most are guys with i5 setups...

Anyway throwing caution to the wind and absorbing the console releases with AMD 8-core, I was even more pleased to hear about mantle and the way it is jerking now. The CPU market has stagnated not getting much faster and still on one/two cores!

This all helped swing me over to considering an AMD, my future GPU will definitely be AMD as I am gonna save whilst crossfiring my two 7770's.

Seeing you guys all get near 5Ghz and backing off a tad for stability helped me make my choice.

I cannot stand and wait for 6+ months for SR to be released, I know the i5 crowd are considering it but lowly old me on C2D is upgrading now.

Small update guys, 5.0 is benchable, but I had to wind up the volts to 1.58 before i stopped, and still couldn't get AOD stable, funny though I could run Aida stress test for 15 mins +

So looks like 5 24/7 is either going to take some work or is beyond my chips capability.

Could you post your volts and setting you've used for 5?

We might be able to help get it stable.

Let's just say I've had close relations with both companies and have seen how Intel like to 'grease people's palms' and just leave it there.

It's no i5 or i7 Killer. Even at 5Ghz the 8350 does not come close to a 4770k at 4.6Ghz.

I have been playing around all day and my 8350 is now sat happily at 5ghz 1.485v after connecting the 4 pin power connector all my issues literally vanished.

I would say the 8350 matches the 4670k in performance but it cannot keep my 7970 Matrix running full chat all the time like the 4670k can. I get GPU drop off every now and again which does not occur with either the Intel chips.

It's still a superb chip and for £140 it's a complete bargain and offers superb performance. How it will benefit when the new consoles come along no one really knows.

If you game single GPU up to 78x 670 level the 8350 is perfect. For high end GPU's or Multi GPU's I would be looking Intel to get the best from them.

I'm still playing and loving the fact I have a 5Ghz CPU fully prime and IBT stable. Temps remain ok as well so all is now good. The board is a joy to use and anyone looking for an 8350 I would definitely recommend splashing out a little more and getting the Crosshair board.

More testing and playing to do and I might even fit it all in a case at some point... :D

Moogleys, how can it match it in performance if it can't keep your 7970 at the same level as your 4670K?

It's a massive contradiction.

Although, what you've said, is literally the same thing I've said on a multitude of occasions (Except I take a crap ton of heat for it for some reason.........)

I miss playing with AMD chips, overclocking them's far better than what it was overclocking the last lot of Intel chips.

Once the FX83's successor's out, I'm certainly going to be looking at a possible move.

EDIT : Well actually, I've got a theory why I take a crap ton of heat for it.
