It definitely sounds to me that Moog has a bum CPU. I think he bought the 8350 in which case I would DSR it.

As for the BF3 thing? please don't take it and run. I can assure you that BF3 is amazing on FX CPUs. I don't care what the benches say, take a look at this. This is my rig, maxed out running everything on ultra with the max MSAA. I'm only running 1440x900 ATM because my 1080p monitor is at mum's (she's using it as a freeview TV with a HD box) but the FPS levels are just insane.

Wont be here in time for the weekend, we are flying to a wedding so looks like next weeks project. At least have time to prepare. Will have to file off my rust on the build fingers... now wheres my screwdriver kit

hah ! FPS are what matter here man.

BF3 is also IMO the best stress test you can give a FX. I've passed mine through Prime, LinX and Intelburn only to find it bombs in BF3.

Crysis 3 is the same. Once you have the buggers 'game stable' you usually find they're good everywhere else.

Win 8 will give a good improvement over Vista in performance. It's far better at handling the 8 cores.

Yeah definitely with you guys on that. As much as it may hurt you absolutely must run 8 on an FX. Even with the fixes in place on 7 my scores were down by at least 10%.

I'm using a start button as I couldn't get my head around Metro. It was free, though, and once installed? it's basically 7 that boots around 10 seconds faster and rips through gaming.

Yeah try 3dmark 13 for example. 7 just doesn't understand the FX architecture tbh. There are fixes for it but they didn't seem to do much of anything for me.

8 needs some jiggery pokery but once you get it there it's awesome. It also takes care of the frame drops as they were due to core parking and cache dumping.

8's fine as standard to be honest, adapt to no start menu, it's actually pretty easy.

I actually find using W7 a pain now.
On my work computer (Since I've now been told I have to use one, as I used to use my Vivobook) I keep thinking it's W8.

8 is simply faster, end of. From the interface to the boot and shutdown times. One thing I will say though is DO NOT delete hiberfil.sys on 8. It uses it to boot faster. If you remove it it screws the OS up lol.

I like having no start menu now.


But that's mainly because I have a touchscreen laptop and an RT tablet, I've just got used to it.


On my PC I only really click Desktop

Ha, unfortunately not, 8.1's out in less than 2 weeks (Which is what I'm waiting on to "fix" my Surface) and my laptop's stuck on the 8.1 preview, until 8.1's out (I can put it back to Windows 8, then update to 8.1 when it's out, but pointless doing it yet)
