***official amd 83x0 overclocking thread***

Farmerboy mate would you mind changing my details on the first page.

The system is:

8320 @ 4.8 GHz 24/7 at 1.44Vcore. Able to achieve 5.15 GHz stable at 1.53V
Cooling: Custom water with D5 pump/res, Phobya Xtreme 200mm rad and EK waterblock
Temps: max 59C package using LinX 20 cycles
Board is now Crosshair V Formula Z and this doesn't throttle the CPU.

Thanks :)

No worries dude will do

Nice. Only asking as we all know he doesn't have to do it and he's a busy world record setter. I asked in the forum and there has been no response for almost a week. Seems a promising guide, am intrigued to see what he has done.

Done. He's a genuinely nice guy and so helpful. If he doesn't get round to stuff it is due to being stretched by work beyond belief, but things do get done.

To put it bluntly his overclocking knowledge would trounce mine, so any information on his experience with the 990-FX boards would be refreshing to say the least!

Good job on emailing him!

I had 4.2ghz on my 990FX Extreme 3 which I believe is pretty much the same power wise.

That was all it would do and I needed a H100 to do it. H50 will not get that far IMO. You may just about scrape a full 8 core 4ghz.

Ok, I might give it a tweak to 4.2 in the BIOS.

Im using Core temp to monitor, is that a good choice?
My 8350 At 4Ghz with the H50 im Idling at 9c and when under load gaming and live streaming im hitting around 45c - Im not very good meausuring temps, for re-assurance, is this ok?

Try HWMonitor, not sure if coretemp works with AMD too well.

9c is erroneous and is the individual cores, you should use the CPU temp reading. 45C is good for loaded temps.

Although coretemp is good with my Intel CPUs, I found that with the 8320, it is a bit erratic. Not sure what it is measuring to be honest only one reading is shown and on idle it is <10C. Is this socket or package temp?

I have found HWMonitor better.

Not sure if its Socket or Packet, I might try HWmonitor if Coretemp is a bit erratic, I'll report back.

OK so with ram in and extreme settings I got 5.2ghz. It wasn't stable enough to run Cinebench though no matter how much voltage. It just threw up errors.

It then froze during Firestrike Physics test. I did get a solid 5ghz with the ram running 1800mhz and got 770 in Cinebench (no screenshot as I wanted to push higher).

Sadly the ram is only 4gb (but it was very cheap for what it is, £20 for 2133 extreme memory) so I can't leave it in my rig. My lady will be getting it along with a new laptop lol..

Good going Andy. Cracking price too.

Cheers ! I'll post up the validation when I get back to the main rig :)

Just sitting here day dreaming over my 7990 which arrives tomorrow :D

Nice, with the GPU it should be a top machine there!

Out of interest with all this FX-8 bottlenecking at some point, what card is the point in where you get diminishing returns you think?

According to the usual boyo's the 7990 is too good for it, so which is the plateau - 7970, 290, 280x?
