***Official AMD Mantle Thread***

Indeed, I was another one who voiced the opinion, it was obvious to anyone who had witnessed the death of the Glide API, Metal API, etc that proprietary API's just don't cut it against D3D/OpenGL, like I said since day one Mantle was always playing uphill on borrowed time.

There is no room for such a thing which was fairly clear from the word go. I just don't understand why it's still not being made available. Actually, that's a complete lie I do but its not worth the grief mentioning.

People who were right were not right on merit of knowing any more etc (I was in the mantle is going to be dead crew), but I think on a whole displayed more objectivity

quite simple really microsoft are bigger than amd. it was only going to end one way.

I really hope dx12 offers what mantle has done in performance and latency specially in crossfire..
All in all am not sad to see Mantle go, if it's being replaced by something better then so be it..

Mantle has done it's job, set the standards of pc gaming.

People here saying amd only done it for money you very wrong. Mantle was built by guys at Dice with AMD on there GCN.. All them frostbite games from Dice they charge themselves? Lol don't be silly.
Yiu can read up the story about Mantle and dice online it all started from battlefield 2.

Anyways instead of spreading junk all over the place how about we wait for what amd after say on Thursday?

"Mantle’s definition of “open” must widen. It already has, in fact. This vital effort has replaced our intention to release a public Mantle SDK, and you will learn the facts on Thursday, March 5 at GDC 2015"

Mantle was never open. Mantles is/was a closed api. What ever happens in the future does change the fact that so far mantle is a closed api that only works on 1 vendor of gpus.

Can't see DX12 having performance parity with Mantle.

Me neither due to the bigger scope of hardware it needs to perform on.

Other side to it is we will see DX12 in many more games and even if it's just behind mantle in terms of performance it's far better than what we've had to put up with in the past.

DX12 will more than likely have a small performance penalty compared to Mantle, unless AMD did a poor job with Mantle.

It's obviously easier to maximise performance when you limit yourself to a small subset of GPU's (AMD+GCN), the wider you cast your net the more overheads you're going to need to bring them all together.

" " QUOTE on QUOTE give away that I have QUOTED something.

Still doesn't make mantle open. Doesn't matter what you quote. Right now the api made by the open standard champion is closed everyone except itself.
I would dare say that mantle is more closed that gameworks, who would have thought that.

it served its purpose - it forced OGL and MS to rapidly move forward and proved the overheads in the driver - much as Win7 showed what was wrong with vista....

which is only a good thing tbh
