hmmmm well if i try NB frequency at 2600 the board fails to boot and says the limit is 2400 due to haveing 1066 memory despite the fact it has been set to 1333 and now at 1600 ... possible the bios has a bug as its still a beta

EDIT ... IGNORE what i said earlier .. apparently i was changing the wrong voltage setting ... now booted with NB @ 2600 but had to up the NB VID Voltage a little .. grrr for testing things late night and early morning when half a sleep

not sure its stable as not primed for hours on end .. lol

4Ghz @1.47v NB = 2600 think its one notch up @ 1.175

let me guess ... now have to up the NB to 2800 or is it now upping the FSB .. :(

EDIT ... first time I have managed to get ram stable for any length of time @1600 though :)

Starts singing theme tune from M*A*S*H

Suicide is Painless .....

CPU 4Ghz @ 1.47v
NB 3Ghz @ 1.35v

IBT passed but yet to stress test , back down ram to 1333 as I have never had it stable @1600 before so its a possible glitch waiting to happen

now for some priming

Please remember I am a noob as this is my first manual overclock without pre-applied and written down instructions :)

Checked my PC at 3PM this afternoon - That was a 23hour run so far - so only had an hour to go. My 1 yr old son waltz's into the room and switched if off!!!!:eek::eek::eek: - AAAAARRRRGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! - I would have so kicked the crap outta him if he was older. One day when he's spent all day working on something I'm gunna screw it up for him to get him back the little git!

I ain't gunna do that run again for the sake of 1 hour but I'm sure me saying so is proof enough for ya'll a 24hour prime95 run is possible on these X6's. If you need proof I can give you a coretemp logging file as proof showing 23hours run! lol

Anyways - I've just reseated my CPU (turns out about 15% of the cpu wasn't covered with any paste!!) since which I've also upped the CPU-NB to 2400 - running the test again now - 24hours or bust - will report back later.

pfffffft to 24 hours ... no way am I going that far .. specially as the rig is about 4 feet from my bed .. lmao

prime is 2 hours stable so far on the specs i posted above and will let it go for another few .. then if OK I will try find out why my ram wont run @1600 for very long

24 hours is to be on the safe side dude, I leave my PC switched on for maybe a week at a time hence why its important to me its completely stable. Shame I don't have the screenie to prove it thats all :(

I can easy run 6 hours then see it fail at 8.....

ARGHhhhhhhhhhhh

5 and a half hours of prime95 without errors or warnings and me feeling things looking good ... so I go to move cursor to open a different browser page and the pc froze solid .. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

so technically prime didnt fail .. lol ..

question is ... cpu stability or ram issue or other issue ?

at least I found out Corsair recommend my ram be 1333Mhz on AMD systems and I found the board was undervolting the ram by 0.5v so I guess that could be the problem .. fingers crossed

back to testing

also of note ... increasing NB to 3Ghz on 1.35v had no effect on temps .. that cant be right can it ?

Reseated my H50 twice now, still a 12C difference between TMPIN0 and Core temps.

And i'm pretty sure its as good as its ever going to get, contact was perfect last time I reseated it.

Ah well, i'm happy with my OC anyway, 3.9GHz on 1.4V running only a single 800RPM fan.

6 cores of silent power :D I'm sure if I turned the fans up I could do 4GHz no problem, but i'd rather have 3.9 and silence TBH.

Just caved and ordered one I'm a sucker for new stuff. :(

The Gigabyte 890FX-UD5 doesn't seem to be in stock anywhere atm though, I don't understand why Asus have abolished floppy controller I still find mine extremely useful.

I haven't used a floppy disk in about 10 years... :|

Dont know if this is a bug, but I have tried it with cpuz 1.54, and cpu tweaker, the multi is dropping to 7.5, the cpu is under full load crunching wcg. Cool n quiet is off c1 disabled, turbo off, cpu usage stays at 100% but drops to 7.5 multi for about 15 secs then goes back up to 14x. Temps are fine 52c, I noticed this when the vcore started showing it was dropping to 1.39v.

running 1055t Asus M4A785D-M PRO on bios 0806

anybody else notice this

just timed this 27secs 14x then drops to 7.5x for 13 secs

running windows 7 64bit

edit--

I have now tried it with prime, 18secs on 14x then 20secs on 7.5x, significantly it looks like when it hits 55c it might be throttling, going to try getting it cooler and see if this still occurs

Windows open/fan blowing in all comp fans on full, as you can see 10 min prime run, temp not above 45c, and no multi dropping, need to check bios to see if any temp controls on, but I doubt it
