*** Official AMD Phenom II X6 1055T & 1090T Overclocking Thread ***

Just changed my 2 front fans around from intake to outtake and now my idle cpu temp is now fluctuating between 15.5 and 16.0 degrees C on all 6 cores with overall cpu temp at 30 degrees C. Oh and had a wee BSOD earlier something to do with IRQL_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL. Any ideas what it is?

Those temps aren't what you want to look at, it is TMPIN0 or TMPIN1 (on HWmonitor) that are your actual CPU temp. The Core temps are just guestimated bobbins.

IRQL_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL usually means you're memory/memory controller is unstable.

i wasn't going to wait 8hours lol...

the vcore is rock sold on this board. my old 790fx board when set at 1.425v it over voltages to 1.44v underload....

but the ram voltage jumps up slightly underload, on this new board

the latency is much better on this 890fx board than my old 790fx board which got 45.6

Just out of curiousity, no one tried the backplate fan? I know it can blow some dust inside the case, but it cut some 5-6ºC for me.
I have the CM90 II Advanced fitted with four Cooltek Case Fans 140mm LED two to the top and the other to the side panel taking air out, with one in taking air in from the bottom, and replace the rear fan with a Cooltek Case Fans 120mm. I have an 80 mm Sharkoon Silent Eagle to the rear of the CPU taking air out. I use five ‘Y’ splitters, which managed the fans under my Motherboard’s Cool ‘n’ Quiet setting. Even overclocked in this heat idle is at 32 Celsius and peaks 55 Celsius under Prime 95 after 8 hours. I do not see the point in using a fan controller with Cool ‘n’ Quiet, my machine runs extremely silent with loudest sound comes from the Caviar Black. Cool ‘n’ Quiet take account of the seven fans and reduces their speed accordingly, it is weird how it works the more fans I added, the quieter my machine became. With 10 positions for fans 6 of them can be 140mm, the CM90 II Advanced has to be a strong contender as the best air cooled case, it is just awesome.

Sounds like fan overkill to me.

I have 2 case fans in my PC.

1 x 120mm Apache on the H50 as an Intake.

1 x 200mm on the case roof as an Exhaust.

That's it.

My X6 sits at ~30C idle, and 58C under LinX. (few degrees lower in Prime).

i have 4 case fans , 1 380mm side fan, 1 250mmm front fan, 1 170mm top fan, 1 120 rear fan..

idle at 31c today due to hot weather, 52c underload.. uselly it idles at 25c and 47c underload

Yep, sometimes too many fans just disrupt the airflow. I was talking about a small fan blowing air to the back of the board, right behind the cpu socket. My temps under load dropped from 52-53 to 47ºC. For those of you in the high 50's under prime/Linx this might help you stay in a more comfortable medium-low 50's, I dunno

I agree with Dazz, fans disrupt airflow, if they are blowing in the wrong direction. I found that if the 80 mm fan is blowing air to the back of the board, right behind the CPU socket that disrupts air flow, it needs to be blowing out in line with overall air flow in the case; this reduces my CPU temp by 3 Celsius. Try it Dazz and see if it makes a difference. Considering your using a D14 and I’m only using a Xigmatek Dark Knight I would expect a 5 Celsius improvement in line with the reviews I have read (The D14 is my upgrade list for this year).

If air is blowing in the right direction, you do not need a lot of it. Inside your case needs to be like catching a chill from sitting in a drafty room because someone left a window slightly open. According to Speed Fan my average speed of each fan is only 550 rpm because their connection to the MB cool n’ quite that is why my machine is very quiet and still runs cool overclocked.

Dazz have you tried your machine without the 120mm rear fan? I heard that it can it can hamper the performance of the D14 by interrupting its air flow.

Ive got 5 fans in mine 2x front 120mm outtake, 1 side 120mm intake, 1x120mm rear on my corsair h-50 intake and 1 roof 200mm outtake. Cpu idling at 30ºC due to warm weather and between 48ºC and 56ºC under full load.

Sorry Blitzy have been on hols, from what i can see the set up as you have it now looks ok, theres a large jump in your Vcore from idle to under load but you will have to ask one of the ASUS boys about that.
Did you buy a OC bundle, if so you have got exactly what you ordered and its probably best not tweaking it yourself until the warranty runs out ;)

I first tried the socket fan blowing out but my temps are way better the other way around. It's all about trial & error anyway.

Never considered turning the rear fan off, but I'll try that out and report back. Thanks for the suggestion
