*******Official Armed Assault 2 thread of official officialness*******

Whats the performance like? I want to know if it'll run semi decently at 1920x1200 with a 4870

On my 260 it's pretty decent, was a bit shocked though at first, but then realised my second card wasn't being utilised but on a single 260, I ahd everything set to max (apart from shadows and post processing) and it was playable, a bit low in the FPS department (20-30ish at a guess).

Kicked in the second card and cranked the view distance to 7k and fill rate to 150% and it's still smooth get a bit of stalling but I think that was due to my virus scanner kicking in, in the middle of firefight.

Just bought for 25 quid from a three letter high street retailer. Interestingly they're running a free play in an attached gaming cafe so tried it out for an hour. They're running 1.0 by the looks of it because it nearly put me off... missions wouldn't start without quitting out and reloading the auto save - when suddenly you're standing on an aicraft carrier with no idea what to do (briefing crapped out I suppose).

So went to training and to the range, and was told to hit as many targets as possible then immediately told I'd failed. Three times. Oh dear. Not going well just about to bin it, went to armory and spawned a LAW (all the good stuff was locked sigh) and was spawned on a random 'kill this' mission. Chased by a HMV (cough) which i Blew up from 6 feet and died - but actually had a taste of action and felt something awesome is there. So bought and praying for quick patches.

Just got on the high street from the purple one for 24.99.

Personally I would much rather have a hard copy with box and manual than download it from Steam or elsewhere even if its slightly cheaper.

Running e7400 @ 4.2ghz, 4 gb 800mhz memory @ 1056mhz and a sapphire 4850 running at 725/1100 for gaming on a 24 inch monitor @ 1920 x 1080 (yes, i know, 1080 not 1200 but what can you do!)

I think the graphics card is going to be my weak point but I cant afford to upgrade it as I only got it in December. If it runs badly I will let you know to save people any potential hassle...

Was just playing it and PC crashed.

Went back into the game and all my data has been lost. Brilliant.

Not my kind of Game Anyway, I still prefer BF2.

the irony is that its more expensive in steam or other digital distribution services.

Well on a 3.2ghz Q6600 with 4870x2 (-winxp switch under Windows 7 RC)@ 1900x1200 I can max all settings but keep view distance to just below 4000 and fillrate to 133% I think it is. Perfectly playable.

The hog is calculating all the AI, this is where you need a decent CPU, which is why I'm dropping in a 4GHz i7 tonight. This will hopefully allow more graphics/AI throughput.

Duran - that is ironic. I wouldnt risk paying that money and somewhere down the line losing the download by a hard drive corrupting or something

Steam let you download with your user with, to my knowledge, as many computers as you want BUT you need to be logged in to play it.

The game play isnt really like Bf2 at all, i mean yeah you can access various vehicles and roles but Arma is a lot slower and complex, rather than jumping in game and charging into the action. Vehicles are only accessible as you build up your base and a huge aspect of the game is the team play, role playing (eg. dedicated pilots) , co-ordination and avoiding getting shot.

Whats the deal with patches?

Is the UK disk patched to where the German version is up to? Since there doesn't seem to be an english version of the first patch yet?

Short answer yes...

The other answer is this....The English 505 release is at 1.01 the same as the german patch, but the english 1.01 is just beta, and the german is at 1.01 Final!

There is supposed to be a 1.02 patch coming sometime today that will unify all current versions.

Some info that some might find useful:

Put in these parameters to launch the game.
-nosplash -maxmem=2048 -world=empty

Instead of 2048, put a bigger number if you have more than 2048 mb ram and a 64bit sytem. It may fix an out of memory error. Also, the game will start faster thanks to the other two parameters.

If you have a dual card or sli or crossfire, and have the feeling the game isn't using the multiple GPUs, use the -winxp parameter.

Also, for those who want to see some gameplay here is a battle video:

Damn it looks good in HD !!
