well I've just tried Arma 2 on W7 64 bit vs Vista 64 bit ...

and even though its on a slower drive its a FAR FAR better experience

frame rates up from average of about 30 up to 36-38

but far more important is how smooth it is - feels like a different game- its that much better

Yes, I experinced the same thing.
My 4870x2 uses both GPUs under Windows 7 with the -winxp parameter

Windows 7 RC1 gave about 20%-25% higher frame rate than Vista when I tested.
Both 64bit versions by the way.

I have Identical Specs to you. Out of interest what fps are you getting under what configurations?

Also, do you have to use the '-winxp' on both Vista and Windows 7? to utilise the second GPU on the 2870x2.

a bit more buggy in W7 (some texture corruption etc) but far more playable overall

even when my frame rates dip to 25fps it feels smooth

in Vista for some reason it always feels laggy - like the person you are controlling is under the influence of alcohol

i cant seem to get into it at all. And on my 8800gtx either c2d e6600 @ 2.88ghz with 4gb ram i still cant get it too play smooth
