*****Official Ashes thread*****

If Root gets out I suspect we'll declare, or perhaps even when he gets his 150? we should have an hour bowling though after keeping the Aussies out in the field all day.

600 lead before we see any chance of declaring, with 2 days left there's no need to rush yet. Look at the amount of overs the Aussie's have bowled vs England, they will be knackered, England have had 2.5 days rest so far

I wouldn't be surprised if Bairstow's been asked to score at a reasonable rate. Try to get him a 50, and declare then or on the next wicket.

If we're not going to declare why not go for every ball and make the most of it? Seems pointless blocking and playing safe cricket now.

The game is won. Might as well give some out of form batsmen the chance to play themselves in to form. I'm sure that was in their mind when they declined to enforce the follow-on, but unfortunately, only Root took the opportunity(Cook and Trott could have done with a few:()...Bell is already in form, so he kind of went for it, without the need to really play himself in. Bairstow, imo has looked a bit shaky, so he might try and get some batting time, as opposed to slogging(i'm guessing of course, he might be there to go for it, he did get 60-odd in the last innings, but I didn't think he looked comfortable tbh)

"England batsman Nick Compton: Well played Joe Root, great effort and well deserved pal."

Aww, good bloke.

Reckon we'll gun it until the end of the day and put them in in the morning.
