*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

I'm thinking of getting the Maximus Formula SE, would you guys recommend this mobo? I have read many mixed views on this board & find it very hard to come to a conclusion.

All help is very much appreciated

I would recommend it , as it is stable and clocks well , the p5k deluxe and premium are both good boards and if price is an issue and your not bothered about crossfire at full speed then those boards are equal clockers

Its the most stable ooverclocking board I've ever had. Got bored over xmas and tried all voltages in the 'Crazy' range to get 4.2Ghz and she could take it without complain.

Does the NB cooling block & all the other cooling bits need to be reseated with new paste applied?

If your going to do it , reseat it before you use it else the glue takes hold , i haven't taken mine off and using water with the standard block its cool enough

Does anyone running this board with this specs: 64-bit Vista Ultimate, 4GB RAM, Auzentech X-Fi Prelude? Any problems?
Thank you

I am running 64-bit Vista (Business, not Ultimate, mind ) and 4x1GB RAM with no issues.....dunno about the soundcard, mind :)

Hi,

I've just set up this board with my 6420, and have clocked it to run at 3.2 using 8x400. All seemed well, however, when running Prime95 I noticed that Probe is reporting a Northbride temp rising above 70 degrees. Naturally I shut the PC down.

I had this clock running on my old Gigabyte DSP3 for some time without issue (although my board did die after about 10 months!). Am I doing something wrong? Is there any way of retaining this clock whilst reducing the NB temp? Relative newbie to overclocking.

Thanks.

Hi , how are you cooling the northbridge , if on water its high , but if you are on air then its probably about right. temp is ok up to 90+ according to the data on chipset but i wouldnt feel comfortable running it there
also what volts you using for 400fsb on the nb ?

Ok, done this and NB temp seems tgo be hovering around 59c running Prime. However, Probe is now alerting me to the DRAM voltage hitting 1.98v and the NB voltage hitting 1.52v!

How is the NB voltage going up when its been set in the BIOS. Does the board automatically scale the voltage to meet the load?

Hi again, you might be able to reduce your NB votages, I just gave you a figure that is known to be stable. Probe just needs calibrating to prevent the dram messages but also make sure you have set these values:
C1E Suppport : Disabled
CPU TM Function : Disabled
Vanderpool Technology : Disabled
Execute Disable Bit : Disabled
Max CPUID Value Limit : Disabled

Wierd, every now and then Probe alerts me to an issue with the NB voltage, and the reason why is because intermittently it appears to drop to zero. It only stays there for about half a second before coming back up, but it's strange nonetheless.

Is this normal behaviour, or is it just Probe being dumb?
