*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

I had already disabled those features.

You were right on the voltage front though. 1.4v works fine. Looks like I was simply not giving the CPU enough juice.

Should I be attempting to raise the CPU voltage further than 1.4? Is this to allow me to increase the FSB, and if so, what's the best steps to hop up on on the FSB frequency?
to get higher fsb with stability its the Northbridge voltage that needs to be a little higher around 1.5volts for this should be ok but again watch the temps . 1.45volts on air is the max you should give your cpu , but with any Overclock there is an element of risk !!!!! if you cant afford to replace your cpu then dont push it i always think

Hi again, disable both CPU Spread Spectrum and PCIE Spread Spectrum, I would also prefer to set the cpu voltage manually, I think it is between 1.187-1.325 for the E6420...

1.4 might be too high, I hope you are keeping a close eye on your temps through coretemp or intel's tat

At 1.4v the CPU appears to be running very stable under Prime95 with the CPU temp sticking at 42C. I've cranked the memory up slightly as well by setting it to 4-4-4-12, and again all seems well. NB temp seems stable at 64C. Looks like a reasonable clock - not sure if I could get any more out of an E6420 on air though.

Hey, ive got 4gb of ocz ram thats suppose to be run at 2.15 voltage but when i set the voltage to say 2.10 in bios and checked it in everest it said dimm was at 2.22 and cant remember *** dimm vtt was or means.

So i lowered the formula dram voltage to 2.04 and now in everest it says 2.14 on the dimm bit and dimm vtt is 1.07. Am i running everything correctly now?

Thanks

Hi all. Are there likely to be a shed load of new BIOS releases for this board now that the new 45nm Wolfdales are out, and again in a month or so when the Yorkfield Quads arrive???

You need to contact Noctua support and request the Maximus Formula brackets for your HSF. The standard ones don't fit but they'll post you some that do.

Hi RichL

How long did you have to wait for the brackets to arrive?

TIA

Dave

Anyone had this problem when you boot up,on the lcd poster it displays "countmem" and just hangs there.

Usually have to hit the power switch and turn it back on and go thru the same process a few times before it actually boots up.

I emailed them yesterday, but have still not had a reply :S

Do they charge for the parts or shipping, or will they send it for free?

Same here. Original email sent last Thursday with additional email sent on Tuesday and not heard a thing from them :(

If the postman doesn't have it tommorow, I will look to buy another kind of cooler. Any recommendations?

I got a reply today asking for proof of purchase & and an address to mail the fittings to, which I've mailed back already.

Hopefully it'll come by next week. I've got my new formula & other parts arriving tomorrow, although I opted for the retail version of the Q6600, so at least I'll have a cooler of sorts while I wait :).

I'll post here when/if the fittings arrive

Two queories i have with my board, firstly i'm well happy with it, but i've noticed my ram is reporting in windows as pc-6400. it reports correctly on POST and in the bios and cpu-z reads the model number correctly. this is going on auto settings, but stays the same if i overclock, bios reports ram at its speed. cpu-z & sandra report it as PC6400.

secondly, does this board indeed support both DDR2 & DDR3?

Change the memory speed manually in the bois to the desired value. Cant remember the exact setting :(

The motherboard only accepts DDR2.
