*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

Hi, probe was indicating my memory was being slightly overvolted, 2.27 instead of 2.2, however I like to run it at 2.1. Setting it manually seemed to fix the issue, however I'm still a little concerned about my temps, particualry the motherboard.
I'm still running stck settings on the CPU however whilst I was playing Stalker my motherboard temps were hitting at least 60c. This may be in part down to the two Pros, flashed to XT's, I have in there, not sure really as my old motherboard, with a single X1900, rarely went over 53c..

Same here with the slight overvolt on ram ,mine is set to 2.2 and i get 2.27 not really bothered to much about it as ram is 2.2-2.3 but i guess it could kill some sticks, i flashed to 0504 but reading clunks review and the same was mentioned on Xtreme forums that ram dividers dont work so well i think i might flash back to release bios. I think we need some better bios to get the fsb up a bit , the other thing the review mentioned is that it didnt like the q6600 b3 as much as the Go stepping , mine is a b3 :(

Hi, thanks andy, can I ask what temps your motherboard is hitting under load, I'm still exploring the wc option, however seems like it may cost around £300 to do CPU, fusion block and both GPU's..

Hi Chris,Cant say for definite about the mb temp , but I seem to think the highest I have seen it is 40 ,I will check after putting it under load tonight, tbh everything seems cool compared to the p5k series boards I had. although I think i am going to pull off the fusion block this weekend and fit my trusty swiftech mcw30 to the nb and I have two Thermalright HR-09 for the mosfets.
I guess your case temp is going to be higher with two gfx cards though, i know when i added a second card on my striker the ambient seemed to shoot up

I have seen a few benchmarks not in raid 0 though the hitachi's are raid 1 backup with my data and I have just transfered 600GB to them so I am not in a rush to set them up again :(. Thought it could be a one off, but the exact same thing just happened  with the hard drives stoping and spinning up while in game then crash. I might be able to benchmark them if I have to reinstall again :(.
Do you think it could be a power drop out? My PSU is a beast but I think some water got in it during the setup :( but I left it in the airing cupboard to dry it out for a day. I would have thought that the 8800GTX would die out before the hard drives though if it was the PSU. Might try swapping the PSU and see if the hard drives are still dropping out.

Do you think there will be any useful info in these files?

Edit I removed the Raid 1 array on the hitachi's and it didn't help I think the problem is either to do with the hard drive controller or the hitachi drives.

without reading the dump file have a look at this:

Just going to chime in with my experiences with this board. Not too good so far I'm afraid although I may have just got unlucky.

Maximus Formula SE
Q6600
4x1GB Ballistix DDR2 800

Build went very well. Components are well placed, Ultima 90 and a 120mm Scythe fan fits fine. One of the fan headers (Cha1 I think) was hard to get too with HS/F installed but not impossible.

Running at stock speeds had no issues with stability or heat for the first day. Second day it restarted whilst formating a hard drive from vista.

From that point on it would not POST. the LCD poster would stick at at the second POST check (DET DRAM). Swapped the DIMM's around a lot and still no go until tried 1 stick in Slot A2.

Failed POST with bad bios checksum. Restarted to slap in a disk drive to try and recover the BIOS but again board failed post and stuck at DET DRAM. Could not reproduce the the bad bios message. Tried the board with some Geil Black Dragon stuff but same result.

RMA'ed.

Couple of other issues I noted that someone else mentioned I think. Hard Drives powering on and off for no reason. My drives all check out fine but they did seem to be making a lot of "powering on/off" noises on the board for the few hours it was working.

Fingers crossed the replacement is of better quality.

Hi, order placed for water cooling components:
1 x Swiftech H20 Apex Ultra Watercooling Kit
2 x Swiftech MCW60-R Universal VGA Water Blocks
2 x Swiftech 2900 Adapter Kits
2 x Swiftech MC14 & MC21 Ramsinks

All for £257.94 delivered, slightly cheaper than I expected. Now I'll have fun, good job it's half-term next week, means I can take it slow and easy...

are you in school

i suspect your teaching ;)

i have the Blitz formula myself, i take its not worth upgrading just yet?

Good choice with the water setup there , would recommend jubilee clips instead of the ones that come with the kit, as they are a bit more positive.

i am running prime stable at 3.4 Gig right now , which isnt too bad, 425 x 8 and cpu at 50 with motherboard showing 29 degrees so i guess the fusion block being cooled by water effects the mb temp aswell as the nb and sb

Hi, blimey, if that's the case with your wc then I hope I'm going to be the same
Your running a B3, not a GO?
Thanks again for your help...

Got mine set up today and everything's working fine so far. Not given cpu a good workout yet for oc. Got my E6600 at a conservative 3.4ghz atm slightly above stock voltage, ram at 1066mhz. It could do 3.75 on the old P5N SLI board and 3.6 stable. Will have more time tomorrow to try things out. Still on the 0401 bios it came with.

Updated to 0505 and cpu volts is in windows as set is bios with 0 droop under load , thats with loadline calibration enabled , some dividers dont seem work though, as in it wont boot with certain settings

Thought I had solved the Hitachi problem, I deleted re-allocated the raid 1 array and then re-formatted and that seemed to have solved it. Thought maybe it was just a bad format, but no still get the intermittent stop and spin up crash problem I am going to try removing raid totally and see if that solves it.
