*****Official ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA thread*****

Yes, although I picked up some Patriot stuff the other day for a nice price.....planning on giving it a whirl instead !

Are there known issues with the Geil stuff ?

Not that i know off but do you know of anyone else using the same stuff on this board ? is that 4 x 1 gigs ?
i would bang the patriot in anyways coz it sounds like it could be ram, is the patriot Micron chips ?

Just checked and it looks like the geil range is mainly micron so its a bit of a mystery

Yeah, and a maddening one !

Thing is my PC started doing this before the Maximus went in.......seems to have better chance of POSTing with 6200 TC card in (fails always with my GTX)......swapped mobos (figured that the P5WDH was at fault....no change.....all that is left is RAM, CPU and PSU.....now have some different RAM and a cheapo PSU...no spare CPU.....

Thing is, this started occasionally happening before motherboard swap and now appears worse ! Must - therefore - be something else, rest of the PC stayed as is.....

Sounds like psu could be a favourite aswell as obvious extra power draw from the gtx , whats your 12v read when you get into windows?

Not sure - haven't got it to POST for a while :(

Plan to try the system on a weedy 400w generic PSU I have sitting around and swap out the RAM....then it is just the CPU (which I can't see as the problem, but who knows !)

Did this once on the P5W....no errors.....would love to POST again to get the chance ! Will be ripping the innards out of the case tonight and going through systematic testing

Really want to play with my new Maximus board ! Started this thread and am now quite envious of all you guys OC'ing away ;)

Just got my Maximus up and running and its great although it would not run my OCZ reaper just like my P5KC refused to as well. Still 4 sticks of ballistix later and its all good! PS I love the little sound card with its fancy leds and the bios poster is great to! In answer to above questions about the water block it is noticably restrictive when everything else in your system is 1/2" but in my case it seems to have helped slightly so ill probably switch all my tubing down to 3/8"
Now anyone wanna buy a P5KC or 4GB OCZ reaper PC8500?

Got 3/8 tubing here so it fits right in with mine. But I'm also having probs with the ram, if I bung 4x1gb sticks in there. Even with the bios on default settings it don't post cept for 2 times when it got as far as the bios setup and halfway loading into windows. 2x1gb sticks are just fine tho (either pair).

Not tried new 0505 bios yet tho. I tested all 4 sticks in another rig (memtest etc) and they are rock solid so dunno what is wrong there. Only real downside so far...bios defo seems a bit flakey

Hi I find that setting ram to 1066 wont post even with 2 x 1 gig so it seems that that divider dont work 1022 will post and so will the higher one

No mine wont run OCZ ram at all now it ran 2 sticks fine at first 1066 but wouldent run 4 at any speed. The exact same thing happened with my P5KC as well (I actually RMA'd it but it came back ok) and I know the ram is fine because Ive tested in a friends setup. Both boards in the end refused to boot at all with OCZ in them stopping before the monitor initiated in the boot cycle. So in the end I got the ballistix 6400 and Im now running 4gb rock solid no probs at 800 4-4-4-12. The only conclusion I draw from that is the new ASUS's simply dont like PC8500 OCZ. I hope this helps you both.

Well still no joy :(

Tried new RAM (Patriot instead of Geil), different PSU and no luck. Now, the 6200 card connected via VGA lead works every time, but not DVI connection; the 6600GT does not on either output (VGA or DVI). Very frustrating and the only thing left not 'checked' is the CPU itself !

(To be sure, I tried BIOS 504 and 505 but no joy)
