**- Official Asus P5K Thread -**

gave up on that.. :(

has anybody managed to get a Razor Tarrantula keyboard to work with the P5k boards (in the Bios) as mine just comes up as a hub ?

Just got my Asus P5K board

Even running 5 case fans on full speed I get some mega high mainboard temps of up to 45-53c !

Asus probe detects it in the red currently @ 45c...

My Q6600 go running on stock gets 40ish c so seems ok there.

Is there a reason why everyone seems to be getting 3rd party northbridge coolers? or is it just a known issue on Asus P5K series?

I had this exact same problem with my Tarantula. However, I've reformatted since then but this time I didn't install the keyboard drivers and I can use the keyboard in the BIOS. It's strange that the drivers disable keyboard functionality in the BIOS, huh?

Had a nasty moment yesterday. I shutdown my pc to add two Noctua fans to my P180b and upon restarting I had nothing to the screen but fans and co were running fine. I've had my deluxe since June and o/c'd since the day I got it and never one problem. I tried bloody everything yesterday to try get it back up and running, you name it I changed it :( After alittle surf at the Asus forums it turns out to be a common fault with the P5Ks. I had to reset the bios and leave the battery out for over an hour before my system came back.

Now I don't want to shut the thing down incase it dies again. Not sure the best way to play this because either the bios chip is knackered or I was just unlucky. Using 311 bios as stable for me and I didn't want to change it. Any suggestions of a plan of action without RMA'in the board.

45-53 is ok for the nb , you shouldnt have a problem untill 90+ on the nb, but for higher fsb then more volts so better cooling

Thx for the response.... but still very worrying seeing such high mainboard temps of 45-55c, that asus probe siren proberly doesnt help either saying warning non stop...

Im not all that impressed and felt safer with my Asus P5B which had normal mainboard temps of 35-45c.

Still undecided on what to do but the P5K maybe making a trip to RMA world ;)

Hi guys, a friend has just got this motherboard but he's got 4GB of RAM (on XP 32-bit), is there a setting in the BIOS that needs to be changed to suit this? He's having severe stability problems.

XP cant see more then 2gig and unofficaly I belive 3gig, Vista can see 3-4gig just fine.

Regardless id advise he run memtest to check for ram errors if hes having stability issues.

Oddly enough past 2 days noticed my Pc aint so stable... I mean the odd software just crashing and then closing... wasnt as stable as my old pc and well ran memtest and all in the red !

So that explains that mystery !

Windows XP 32-bit and Vista 32-bit can both 'see' the same amount of maximum memory, which normally is between 3GB and 3.2GB (even if you have 4GB physically installed). This is due to virtual memory addressing which includes addressing memory on things like the video card. You need a 64-bit version of Windows to fully utilise 4GB or more of (physical) memory (not counting PAE into this).

What is true is that most 32-bit applications won't 'see' more than 2GB (individually) at any time (that includes 32-bit applications on 64-bit Windows).

More details can be found here (microsoft.com), here (microsoft.com), here (microsoft.com), here (vistaclues.com), here (brianmadden.com) and a number of other places.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but on the P5K-E can you use a Memory divider lower than 1:1 ? Or can you clock the memory independantly to the FSB?

Thanks, Ben

Also if anyone has shots of the BIOS menus etc that would be fantastic :)

Hi all, just got myself a P5k premium and when set up the same as it was with my p5b deluxe and Q6600 @3.2 im having trouble setting up windows - it keeps saying cant copy the files from the cd, i have 2x pioneer 212s and its the same on both of them.

But if i put it back to stock speeds its ok.

Latest bios 0402

Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm having problems installing the X-f1 sound card. Is there something in the BIOS i'm missing because it's not even being picked up as a device? I have PnP O/S set to no.. is that correct?
