**- Official Asus P5K Thread -**

Tried the basics?

try another pci slot on the board...

make sure its seated in properly...

Reset bios defaults then turn off onboard audio..

Id go as far as to do a complete clean format and Visa load again.

last test would be to try it on another mainboard/pc see if it gets detected.

I've got one of these motherboards on its way. just the plain P5K, anything i should know about them before hand?

Also does anyone know if it has an option to run sata as native or some kind of fake IDE? i only ask becuase for the time being i dont have a floppy drive!

Yeah think it had the option to run it as EIDE sorta mode.... worked out fine XP went on and found my Samsung 500 and even my Seagate 400gigger Sata drives.

Its a lovely board I got the feeling a lot of us got it for 70 quid ;)

Oh my word, would i?

Ah wait. yes i would ;)

can't wait for it to arrive. really excited! heard repots of up to 500 fsb. if i could get anywhere near that i'd be over the moon!

also got 4gb of ram an a e2140 in the order as well

Hi

I thought aswell to add my clock to the thread :

Board arrived today,

very strange problem. Get a high pitched squeel across all audio inputs/outputs :(

installed a soundcard as i really CBA to RMA it. wil fiddle with drivers over the weekend but i suspect its just broke

mind you threw me e2140 upto 2.6 all on stock. aint even tried to push it futher. no doubt it'll get it to 3ghz :)

Is there anyway to put the ram on a divider? becuase i set the FSB to 333, the strap to 333 then i can run the ram at 333. but anymore fsb (ie a higher clock!) and it starts overclocking the ram, which i dont want to do (cheap exlair (or however you spell it) stuff)

I had that too, I got it to go away by disabling floppy drive in device manager.

I think it's to do with a irq conflict.

The soundcard i had was x-fi extreme music and only happened on vista,
worked fine on xp.

667, hence my problem :(

Try disabling floppy see if it helps, I never tried my onboard sound could have been doing it too.

tried to no aval. checked the IRQs and it appears the sound is sharing the same IRQ (22) as sata controller, however it dosent say theres actualy a conflict. either way i cant exactly disable it to find out :p

ah ok nps, sorry for accusing you lol.

What do people think i should go for, a abit p35-e or a standard P5K? Both seem good, the P5K looks a bit more stable, but ive read some reviews saying the abit p35-e has better overclocking stuff, even though its very cheap.

Or you could go for a Gigabyte P35 board, good overclockers, good materials and a good price to :)
