**- Official Asus P5K Thread -**

For some reason i cant get above 300FSB on this P5K with a E4400, if i even go 1mhz above 300 it becomes unstable, sometimes doesnt even manage to boot into windows, i bumped up the voltage to 1.424, doesnt help at all, is this the motherboard or the CPU?

Drop the multiplyer and see. If you can drop the multi and push the FSB up its the CPU limit, if not then its FSB wall.

My board is the same, cant go above 340~mhz.

Yep,

This board is very strange, seems to get brilliant results most of the time but sometimes i just fails at overclocking at all! very frustrating!

hi guys i'm looking for some help here i'm thinking of buying my hubby Asus P5K Premium/WiFi-AP Intel P35 and just wanted to know if it's going to be appreciated on xmas day??? i know nothing about computers or computer bits (well i know how to turn them on (computer that is u filthy minded lot))

So before i go and spend my money on this, i just wanted to know if it's worth it or not?

Just pencil modded my delux :)

2 sweeps of a pencil - first try at a pencil mod and success.

Set at 1.325 in bios.

Get 1.306 idle and 1.306 load :)

Just need to get the extra 0.019 now :D

got a p5k and the temps on the northbridge are higher than the cpu, MB in probe II is reading 50c at idle, is this right or should I do something about it? anyone tried the P5K Beta BIOS 0803, is it any use?

p

Still got no sound, tried every driver on the Asus website that I can find :/

Does anyone know if a Fuzion block will fit on the motherboard ok ?

Sounds like it may be a faulty audio chip on the mobo then - if so maybe you can wangle an upgrade for your troubles :-)

Hey guys,

I've got a few questions over my new board choice.

So far i have been looking into a PK5 Premium or a Abit IP35 pro.

Both look very good clockers and very good to use. But will the Premium fit a
Tuniq Tower on it with all the heatsinks in place?

I understand there is probably a LOT of bias in this thread :D ,but would you say the Premium is a better board than the IP35 Pro. WiFi on the board also
gives a good selling point even if that might be a trivial thing for some people.

Cheers

:Edit: What are them main differences between the PK5 premium and the PK5-E?

Looks like I will be emailing Asus then, although they are terrible with RMA.

Sent a Asus Striker Extreme back 2 weeks ago and still not got it back, had an email to say they received it, but nothing else, even when I emailed them :/
Crucial on the other hand took 2 days to get my new ram to me :/

Anyone know of a UK number for Asus as when I phoned I was told I ahd to use the online web form which is a crock.

edit: Got an email from November 23rd stating they had received the board, how long can it possibly take!

I got the P5KC yesterday and thought id share the problems i had with it.

1. Under XP the sound driver refused to install, its fine under Vista
2. Installing the chipset inf broke my USB ports, it kept asking for drivers for things like external hard drives and card readers. Reinstalling vista and not installing the chipset driver seemed to fix this

Are these common problems?

new p5k premium issues

Hi all

This is my first Intel based system and things are not going well at all.

So far i have noticed the new board appears to be warped which is resulting in the individual heatsink without heat pipes not contacting the componants under it.
Even with the q6600's heatsink and fan removed it is still not contacting the components so it must be the board.
Shame as it is the first time i have had an ASUS board with a build issue.

Then the fun has really started, first i was unable to set a raid array-system would just hang at post screen as soon as raid was enabled and on exiting the bios would actually appear to turn off the pc fully for 5 seconds or so before re booting although not every time. I messed around with all the sata cables and last night managed to get it to boot (twice in fact) before i started getting errors like system over clock failed??????? (bios is default except for raid settings.
Back in to the bios and set to ide and all works a treat-NO PROBLEMS AT ALL.
This went on and on for an hour and a half trying various configurations of hardware, sata leads, before i decided i had had enough.
Reading through others experiences i see that a common fault seems to be SATA problems and it appears i have a lemon:mad:
Anyone else had the same problems as me and did you get them fixed? this board is being RMA'd on monday and i will just have to wait and see how the next one fairs.
I have always had ASUS boards and this is the first time i have ever had a problem like this.

just to clarify the hardware i am using-

q6600
p5k premium
corsair xms2 6400 (2 gig)
2 x WD 500 gb SATA 2 drives
700 watt OCZ psu

Hi all, i just builted my new system last wednesday and i was wondering if it was a good idea to update the bios. I have never updated a bios in my life.
Is there any solid reason to do it? is the system performance going to get better?
Sometimes i read here worrying help threads, and i dont want to be one of them.
I plan to overclock too.
Thanks!!!
