does anyone think the onboard sound is a tad bassy ? i was trying to set it up again today -- the sliders seem to have a life of their own .
i was playing a tune on winamp and powerdvd was also open, as i was configuring it.
the winamp volume was on full and i adjusted it manually with my speaker volume so it wasnt too loud.. i increased the volume on powerdvd (which wasnt playing anything) and it got louder still .. it kinda took the focus from winamp - very strange.
anyway the bassy thing.
as far as i can tell the best way to set this up is control panel/sounds and audio devices, then speaker volume, then lower channel 3 and 4 (on mine thats the centre and sub - 5:1)
i know i can do it with the knobs in the soundmax panel but i prefer the other way.

Cold boot problems with P5K
Got the P5K/Q6600 Quad/2GB Corsair XMS 2 6400 bundle last week, plus an extra 2GB of memory and have been having boot problems from a cold start.
Powering up for the first time always fails to boot. Pressing reset over and over again finally gets the machine to boot, sometimes (like this morning) within about 5 or 10 minutes - other times it can take 30-40 minutes.
Once I've booted up successfully for the first time, rebooting usually causes no problems.
I've updated the BIOS from the 06xx version that came with the board to the latest 07xx version without any difference and then to the beta 08xx version, again without any improvement.
I've manually set the memory to 4-4-4-12 and a voltage of 2.1V as specified on the sticks and set the FSB to 1.4V as recommended by the Corsair RAM Guy.
If I run Memtest86 on the default settings I get no errors. If I set it to "All BIOS" (I think that's what the option says - I'm doing this from memory) it fails immediately and locks.
Running Vista 32's memory tetster gives no errors.
Running BurnInTest with 4GB fitted gives me memory errors. If I take 2 sticks out I get no errors. Either way, the boot up issues remain.
I've tried booting with 1, 2 and 4 sticks fitted and still get the startup problems.
I've pretty much run out of ideas and patience with this. I've always stuck with Asus boards as they've never given me such fundamental issues before. If I can't get this sorted today I'm seriously thinking of sending it all back and trying something else. No idea what though.
Any suggestions on what I could try to get this running or on an alternative setup that would just work?

To peeps who upgraded and want to downgrade again and wish to try 0603 which came as standard on my board Revison 1.01g...i have sent it to Aerosupra who has kindly put up on his server...here's link on xs....also may i add use at your own risk!.

theres a 07 04 and a 08 05, i still use the 06 03 , heard bad things about voltages and overclocking with the 07 04.
No problems here m8...purchased mine some weeks back and running @ 3.6ghz...just don't use bios above 0603.
Hi thanks a lot. Is there a way for me to tell which bios the board ships with?
Not until you get it i'm afraid...but it's not a big deal...if you have to flash it it's fairly simple.
eeek! I've never flashed a bios in my life.
1 more question - is there any known ram that *doesn't* work with this or is having reported problems? I just want to know to avoid it cause I'm ordering as we speak

Thank you, I'll go with the Geil then since you say it's worked well on yours. I trust there won't be a problem with the 2x2GB versions
Are they the black dragons...if so they should be ok but you can let us know lol as their my next purchase.
i've had mine for a few months now, no problems at all, using bios 0705 for te last few hours and all is well with my E2140 @ 3.2
Later bios should be ok with core2duo it's quad their not so good with.

Had mine for months now. Been running 0603 from the very start and my system is completely stable (e6600 at 3.2MHz on air)

P5K-e WiFi/AP BIOS Update Issue
sorry if this is hijacking the thread, just got the above board and installed in a new build, got running under XP SP2 and thought would update BIOS as it was an older version. D/l'd latest BIOS, copied to USB Drive re-booted and went into BIOS and called up EZ-Flash. Backup'ed up old BIOS to USB drive, and then flashed new BIOS all went ok, did re-boot and never posted, tried to use the Crashfree to get it to recover and failed after numerous attempts. OCuk have replaced board but wondered if anyone has encountered this, is there an issue with EZ-flash, spotted thread to not use Windows method or was I just unlucky as when the new one comes will need to update BIOS if it is the 'older' version
