*****Official ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA thread*****

Is it just me or is it bloody difficult to get the bloomin soundcard in..?!!?

This is really doing my head in now :(

Edit: Sorted...took a pair of pliers and did a McGyver lol :D

How are you getting on with the board so far regarding overclocking?

Did not have a problem with fitting the sound card into my antec 1200.

Haven't gone near it as far as overclocking goes, am waiting for the thermal paste to cook first. My temps seem a bit high to me, although this is the first time I've been near an Intel processor let alone 4 cores.

My temps are (according to Core Temp):

Tj. Max 100%
Core #0 38
Core #1 30
Core #2 36
Core #3 36

Am running everything at stock and my case is open so am assuming that once I close it the airflow will knock at least a couple of degrees off. But it still seems pretty hot for something running at stock speed. I've basically left everything in the BIOS to Auto and disabled Speedstep but given the cooler I'm using I was expecting the temps to be lower. The temps above are at idle, I've just installed Crysis so will see how that affects things in a minute. Will play it for 20 minutes and let you all know what's happened to my temps.

Im not sure what your temps are suppose to be, but i have an issue myself with ocing the e6400.

running @ 8x400fsb 1:1 ratio on my 4 sticks of 1gb geil ultra latency 800ddr2 auto timings for now.

Runs very stable on lowest voltage on the vcore and NB and 2.1v on the diims.

Problem i have is the Cpu at idle runs at 37-38 on both cores, but the NB is always a little higher maybe 39-40.

Under load the cpu temp never goes above 53 and the nb is still around 40-43 area.

Just abit confused why the nb would be abit hotter than the cpu even with a spot cooler pointing directly at the NB HS.

Maybe a Bios issue giving false temps? but im reluctant to update with the system running without any issues on the 3.08 bios.

Not too sure mate, my NB temp is 39 degrees according to PC Probe and running Prime for 25 minutes or so and one of my cores reached 51 degrees according to Core Temp. But the Real Temp temperatures were around what I thought they'd be. Core temp is always 5 degrees hotter for some reason. I haven't started overclocking yet, might have a quick go in a bit and see what happens lol :D

mine has just turned up at work, cant wait to get home and start playing and see what happens.

Took my old board out last night so all i need to do is drop this in and i'm off. Woohoo.

Anyone running with an E8400? what sort of clocks have you got?

Asus Rampage Formula with E8400 and TRUE

Hi,

I'm just in the process of putting together the following so should be able to report findings soon:

Asus Rampage Formula Rev. 1.00G
Core 2 Duo E8400, batch number Q829A945, pack date 10/03/2008
TRUE with Noctua NF-P12 fan

What overclock could I expect from this combination with 2x2GB Corsair Dominator DHX 8500 ram?

got my E8400 up to 3.8 with 500*7.5 and its solid as a rock. only prob i had was i had to reinstall vista and now i'm having all sorts of probs with it.

Vista keeps freezing and all sorts. its prime stable but vista not having a good time at all. i think it might be the RAM i've got as this board does not support OCZ RAM. (should have checked that before i got the board, ah wel)

Its been 3 days and i'm still not running properly!

have you give the ram correct volts, and up the n/bridge slightly.

my rampage runs ocz reapers 1066 @ 1200 and can go up to just over 1300mhz for benching.

never had a problem with them.

Have you disbled the "Loadline Calibration" setting in bios? Default is auto and with the 45nm chips it causes random bsod and crashes when idle for no reason.

"Again, we must also strongly caution against the use of "Loadline Calibration." We recommend you leave this option disabled, especially when installing a 45nm CPU."

NB @1.5 and RAM @ 2.2v so should be ok?

So would it be worth we swapping my Abit IP35 Pro out for this board then with the setup in my sig?? The Mofsets on my board are stopping me hit 3.6-3.8 on the IP35 Pro without having stupid temps and volts!!!

fingers crossed mine is ok now. prime stable +6 hours and its been idleing all day and its been fine. just had a 2 hours sesion on grid and no probs at all.

Still need to rinstall most of my stuff after mad props to start with but i'm getting there now.

new details in sig below.

now i've changed that and got it working is there anything else i should change?

Whats the strap FSB to Nb thing all about?
